"You can tell by looking at them." This was uttered in a tone of disgust by a well-dressed young woman to her acquaintance, another, less well-dressed young woman to her right.
The second woman avoided peering at the couple in question, but she did allow a lengthy glance in their general direction. "I'm not certain. He doesn't appear to be madly in love with his wife."
The first woman sniffed. "Regardless, she is obviously in love with him."
Another lengthy glance revealed that the wife in question had her hand on her husband's arm in a most possessive manner, and she was actually leaning toward him to whisper something in his ear. As the second woman watched, she thought she saw what might be construed as a glint of amusement in the husband's eye.
It was probably a trick of the light, but she wasn't sure.
Another sniff. "It isn't seemly."
It wasn't, but the second woman thought it must be nice.
