holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (Default)

I actually liked it pretty well. I mean, some things still bothered me a bit, but the things I'd seen that I knew I wouldn't like were a lot more minor than I thought they'd be.

It wasn't my favorite movie, but I wasn't upset about it while I was watching it, either. In fact, I mostly ended up thinking it was pretty fun--although I DID have one thought at the time: Did JJ Abrams double down on the lens flares?

there's a link in my journal to a very very funny outraged summarizing/FAQ thing that will have you snorting your beverage out your nose. I liked it a lot, too. Wasn't BC a great bad guy? Awesome voice!

Aw, good, glad that you had fun! I liked it too - the spaceships and special effects were really gorgeous. Probably the second-best "spaceship screaming through atmo" scene, besides the Galactica.

I thought that about the lens flares too! A teeny bit overused, lol. My friend B quibble was that "They were wearing hats! There are no hats in Starfleet!" Hahahaha.

I actually don't mind a bit of lens flare now and then... but I figure if you end up thinking about the lens flare, then there's too much of it!

I also appreciated all the running. Lots of running!

I did wonder about the hats! Hah!

The thing my partner in the airforce said about the hats was - Kirk was outside and never wearing it. Citation!

The Aussie military has this thing that hats must always be worn outside - or they get in trouble.

But hey - can't have Chris Pine with hat hair :).

Hee! I think hat hair in a movie is the WORST THING EVER. /sarcasm. :-)

Yes, he almost certainly doubled down on the lens flares!

But I'm glad you liked it! We can have a little trio of people on the Internet who enjoyed the movie. :)

Hee! Man, there was a lot of lens flare going on on that bridge.

I'm glad you liked it. I was feeling a bit lonely on the internets :).

(Even if I still kept thinking - seriously - do you have any original ideas? I turned my brain off and enjoyed the pretty and the explosions :D)

I enjoyed it as well. And I liked the story and that it leaves of open the possibility of bringing back a certain character. As a casual ST viewer I was amused by the tweak on the TOS movie.

I get what ppl are saying about the women not being there as full characters - I mean really WTH was with the changing scene - but mostly I'm just numb/fatigued with always getting worked up about that. Plus I went back and watch the TOS movies (Wrath Of and Search For) after and yeah - ok there's no underwear scene but they don't exactly pass the Bechdel test either - so yeah TLDR - I'm not letting that get in the way of my enjoying the film.

Yeah, I was actually surprised at how many women there were--they were almost all background noise, and the two that were more front and center didn't have a TON to do, but they were, at least, there.

Huh

I guess the lens flare thing just isn't something I tend to notice. I didn't really note them in the first one until I read/heard all of the ribbing it got for that, and even with that in mind, I didn't catch them in the second one either.

I didn't notice it the first time, and I didn't go in looking for them, either... there was just a LOT of it going on when they were on the bridge.

I liked it too! But I wanted a way to dim the brightness slightly whenever the enterprise bridge was on the screen. lol

I don't know how they called it "Into Darkness" with all those lens flares.
