SGA: The Seer and Miller's Crossing

I caught up yesterday, so I am posting for both eps. I haven't seen any of the reactions to "The Seer" at all, so hopefully I wasn't too sick to comprehend it. :-)

The Seer:

OMG! A glimpse-into-the-future episode that I didn't hate! One of my pet peeves is when shows get all wonky and mystical when there's no basis for it in the universe. But the seer wasn't bugging me, and I think it's because they already so went there with Daniel, and then Rodney (kinda). And you know, in a universe where whole databases of alien knowledge get downloaded into Jack's brain, I somehow have less of a problem with it.

Also, Where did this sudden undying love for John come from? Was it my imagination, or did his scenes with Sam rock? Or maybe he was just reflecting the Glory that is Sam? Whatever. All I know is that his part in this episode was awesome--right down to the last line. I LOVED the interaction between him and Sam, too--shows that they're comfortable with each other, even if they're not yet great friends.

If this episode had come first, I might have liked the ending scene in...uh...shoot. *Searches Gateworld for episode title she should totally know* "Doppleganger." Yes. I would have liked that scene better if this episode (and maybe a couple more) had come before the gang just accepted Sam and Jennifer at their table like that.

Also. Woolsey. Never change. I love to hate you and be constantly distracted by not being able to quite erase the gleeful thought of, "OMG that's Robert Picardo!" whenever you are on the show. *loves*

Also, Sam totally knew something was up. Subconsciously, if nothing else. Also, I hope hope hope hope hope that everyone else was as impressed with her in this ep as I was. I really liked the different facets of her character, between her doubts with Shep and the confidence with Woolsey.

That's probably more than enough for now...

Miller's Crossing:

I, too, was a little confused by Sam's complete absence from helping with the Replicator code. However, I am hand-waving it somehow. I haven't figured it out yet, but that's okay.

You know, I liked Jeannie and her family a lot more in "McKay and Mrs. Miller." Well, at least the first half. Jeannie in the second half seemed more like I remembered--fondly exasperated with Meredith instead of completely shrill. Although...with the kidnapping, I guess that's understandable.

How much do I love the Meredith thing?

The whole sister-is-sick-must-take-care-of-her thing was...a little heavy-handed, I think.

And I may have fallen a little out of love with John again. I'm sorry, but that scene was just...ouch. And as [livejournal.com profile] svendra said, it's totally not subtext anymore when John does something like that for Rodney, and then they have that little heart-breaky scene at the end with the awkward love and gratitude between them.

McKay/Shep people? You got nothing to worry about. Now quit bitching.

JASON MOMOA YOU ARE TOO HOT. PLEASE STOP OMG.

Yeeeeaahhhh on John in last night's ep.

And good lord, they do like to beat people with the McShep stick don't they?

And Ronon?

**Brain melts**

Ronon!

I really like what they've done with Sam and Sheppard's working relationship. I was afraid that they would have Sheppard give her a hard time because she was replacing Weir.

Sheppard seems to be like, "Okay, you're competent, not a bitch, and I respect your experience, so we're cool."

I think Sam gets along with him because he has a lot of Jack-like qualities and that she's comfortable with that kind of irreverence and creative tactics.

I hope they're friendship continues to develop and also I'd like to se Sam really form a friendship with Teyla.

Same here. We already had enough Sam-hate from fandom, though.

My all-purpose SGA handwave is that Sam only agreed to take the job on the condition that she'd spend a certain amount of time per month/quarter/whatever on Earth.

*handwaves*

That makes much more sense than anything I've thought of.

Subtext? Yes, I can see where a good imagination could see it. At the risk of offending what seems like at least half of the LJ SGA ship authors out there, why can't men just be good friends? They can. Sorry, but I've just been a little exasperated lately. I enjoy the show as written. I choose not to think it is some alternative version of When Harry Met Sally.

Heh. I wasn't saying that they were *trying* for it, or even that that's how I interpreted it. But they are making it easy to see things a certain way.

I think that's a common complaint about all shippers, though. "But they're just good friends!"

Yeah, but if you want to see something there, that shared glance, that friendly pat on the back--it can be used for your own nefarious purposes. *grins*

[identity profile] terranlily.livejournal.com 2007-12-01 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew what you were saying. That scene did make it easy. But I've seen just as many scenes where TPTB seemed to go out of their way to deny it.

I've been trying to transition into reading more SGA fanfic, since I ignored it until after SG-1 was cancelled. I thought it would help "deepen" the characters, which I always thought were a little shallow on the show...especially John. I've just been overwhelmed by the sheer glut of John/Rodney.

Okay. I'm done now. Thank you.

See, and I didn't even interpret it like that, either. I just took it as John Being Evil to Save a Civilian. (which, I'm totally ok with John being evil. He has no Liz Moral Compass around anymore, after all)

[identity profile] terranlily.livejournal.com 2007-12-01 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Now, that brings up another excellent point: Dark John - ooh - I like that. Show me more of that. It's good that they make Liz's absence felt...I'd hate it if they all went around pretending like nothing's different. Losing a friend in such a terrible way -is- going to affect you.

I saw the "sacrificial offering" thing coming the moment the Wraith gripped the workbench. But I did not expect John to let him kill...I thought they would just "knock a few years off" of Wallace.

Yay, someone else who is just as fangirlsih about Robert Picardo on Stargate :)
The writers developed so well the relationship between Sam and John, didn't they :) It makes me like John again.

I simply love seeing my Star Trek peoples around.

Also, I hope hope hope hope hope that everyone else was as impressed with her in this ep as I was

I just saw The Seer and was surprisingly pleased by it as well... I LOVE SAM. But at the same time, I want her to shove Rodney aside and take over when it comes to doing the whole MALP/writing a virus/being a scientist thing. Gah. I'm so torn, because I love seeing her hesitations in command and how much she's growing and how she called Woolsey on it (Jack is gonna be happy), but I want the geeky joy Sam, too.

Sigh. I just want Sam, I guess, and I'm happy any way I can get her. Seriously, half the ep was me being like "Wow, she's SO pretty."

Heh. I need help. But I'm liking the growing friendship between her and Shep, and he seems to respect her, at the least, which is as it should be. I also like how she calls Rodney to order so well. And her standoff with the Wraith? Awesome.

Sorry for gushing over Sam in this ridiculously long comment!!!

Hah! I love Sam-gushing!

Seriously, half the ep was me being like "Wow, she's SO pretty."

Yes. Me, too. ;-)

I want geeky joy Sam, too. I'm sure she'll come back--we just have to be patient whilst the show settles a bit, yes?
