Casting Spoilers, Dresses, and Love of Fandom

Atlantis season 5 spoilers in this link. All I have to say is that I am going to be vastly entertained, both by the fan's reaction to the news and then probably by the show itself. Because...eeep! Also, some of the other spoilers are Very Good.

[livejournal.com profile] beanpot has some lovely, spoilery comments in her journal, too.

I have been perusing the blog A Dress a Day, and I find that my love for sewing (which ebbs and flows into projects until we get to hemming, which is nasty and awful) is coming back. I am going to make it (picture would follow if the picture loading program would, you know, work, or if photobucket wasn't down for maintenance) in a very interesting, dragon-laden, gold and brown fabric that surprises me with how much I like it every time I did it out. If it turns out, you can expect to see it at dragon*con. Yes. I must must must remember that cutting is 90% of the work, and that it is necessary to acquire notions before starting the project. Other than that, I should be fine. It looks like a fairly easy pattern. (Simplicity 4050, the short version with the edging on the hem, too).

WARNING: THERE WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS.

Ooooh those casting spoilers look like fun! Good thing I don't really care about Atlantis, otherwise I might be upset about the change in command. Everything else makes me happy. ;-)

Even with the change in command, I'm pretty happy--AT can move on to other things, largely, and yet still be involved with the franchise.

[identity profile] phdelicious.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
My being upset wouldn't so much be for Carter/AT cause I know it's for good things for her, but more for the Atlantis crew getting jerked around again with another new leader. ;-)

I'm really happy for Amanda.

Ah. Yes. That part of it, actually, and I confess to being somewhat of a masochist, I find hilarious. Especially because of the character.

Hooyah! I was right! I *so* should have posted my prediction that Woolsey would take command! Heheh...it's going to be grand!

I totally didn't expect it, but it makes a certain amount of sense. I'm looking forward to it!

I have a soft spot for Woolsey. It will be interesting to see how he handles being in charge. Do you think he'll still wear a suit to work everyday? ;-)

Somehow I can't see him in Atlantis jumpers...

*is amused at the thought*

I love Robert Picardo. Does this make me weird? Never mind, don't tell me. But yeah, the sound of the SGA fandom going nuclear this morning was both deafening and ... um, really, really funny.

And I've never been able to sew even a single straight line, so color me impressed.

Nope. Not weird. That man has my attention, no matter what he does. He is just good fun, plain and simple.

My first sewing project was a *dress* that I made, in cotton with sheer, slippery material over it, for a costume. It was hellish, and I absolutely did not actually attach the sleeves myself. I had to get help. Since then, I've made a couple of bags, a corset, and a few skirts. This will be attempt two at a dress, but thankfully, it's a simpler pattern and easier material.

Not really the 'sticking a toe in the water' type, I see. *g*

Nope--I'm a "If you're going in the water you might as well jump" person. (Even if that water is the near-freezing Pacific Ocean of the Oregon coast.)

Oh, god, I hate hemming too. I used to get my grandmother to hem stuff for me before her arthritis got too bad. Now I just take stuff to a seamstress to get it hemmed. I'd rather pay then go through the aggravation. The sewing bug has sort of bitten me again too. I think it's watching Project Runway and not finding any clothes that I really like in the stores. Not to mention I'm on a vintage kick and I so do not have a vintage figure so massive modification would need to be made. I really want to get a dress form too, because it's a bitch to fit things on myself. It's tough to find nice looking fabric anymore too.

Your fabric sounds awesome. I look forward to seeing it at dragoncon.

I don't have anywhere close to a vintage figure, which makes me sad. But I think as long as I stick to simple things, I should be okay...maybe. ;-)

And I'll probably get my seamstress friend to help me hem it.

Ooh, cute dress. And a dragon-laden fabric would be very appropriate for Dragon*Con. :)

I really didn't think about the dragon=dragon connection before I decided on it, but it seems obvious in retrospect.

While I am surprised about the casting, it actually does not bother me too much which is also surprising. I think there is potential for fun.

One of these days I will learn how to sew, but I do know enough about sewing to agree that hemming is the worst.

Hemming, no matter if one is pinning, standing *completely* still, or sewing, is a nightmare.

*almost but not quite manages to talk herself out of the dress idea*

[identity profile] poetressforgod.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually really like hemming. Especially handsewing hems. You are forbidden to NOT sew just cus you don't want to hem!

Hee. As if I'd let that stop me. I'd just get you to do the hem. ;-)

I wanted Atlantis to return to civilian control and Woolsey allows for some GREAT head-butting to be had. Very interesting choice :)

I agree. There's all sorts of conflict to be had.
