There are NO SPOILERS at all below the cut, unless you count reactions as spoilers. And even then there's no reaction to the premiere for Heroes--just a general sort of reaction about the show as a whole.
As
splash_the_cat pointed out, SEVEN MORE DAYS UNTIL IRON MAN DVD. I haven't been this excited for a DVD release since...um. Ever? Possibly ever. At least since X-Men, which held my previous record (along with LotR: FotR) for Most Times Viewed in a Theater (at 3, IM got 4 with one pay-per-view which I totally think counts.). Although, really, WHY can't I write fanfic for this fandom? Why must there only be two hours of canon that I really understand? Why can't I bring myself to spend tons of money on comics? Why?
So, last night was apparently the Heroes premiere. I have to say that I've completely broken up with the show. No worries to those of you who still enjoy it, but stomething about it bugs me. I'm not a character-hater, but almost all the characters drive me insane. Except Hiro. And he tries really HARD to drive me insane.
I saw the X-Files movie (the new one) and enjoyed it, mostly. Okay, so the first X-Files movie is on my "Movies I Love Even Though I'm Pretty Sure Most People Don't" list. I love everything about that movie and watch it only slightly less often than any particular version of Pride and Prejudice. Aliens! Conspiracy! In-Jokes! UST! Bees!
So I was hoping this movie would be similar, and it just...wasn't. It felt like everything was a bit rusty to me, as if it was all just a bit old. And in some ways, that way okay--it was a very quiet kind of X-Files movie, but it didn't hit my buttons. *mourns*
SVU: I BLAME YOU, JENN. If it weren't for her picspams, and the promise of eventual angsty ship, I never would have given Law and Order: SVU a chance. Never. NEVER. But instead I've found myself watching the first season and just...oh, man. Apparently I'm more of a cop drama person than I thought, because even without the ship (and sorry, Jenn, but I'm not seeing it here in season one, at least), I'm enjoying this show entirely too much. Some of the episodes don't really strike deep enough for me--a few of them have openly bothered me with the way they handled sensitive subjects--and some of them (Russian Love Poem) are just compeltely fucking weird. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in season two.
Also: I hear in Law and Order there's unrequited, coded girlslash in the canon, somewhen. Eeee! (I've given up trying to pretend I don't like that stuff except for Sam and Vala. Because I'm totally looking forward to seeing if there is actually subtext I can see. Bwa ha ha ha--*ahem* (the next stage is getting me a true mslash pairing))
Last night I watched Devdas. Oh, boy. First, I did not know how long this movie was going to be. It is three hours long, which meant that we were halfway through the movie when I thought it was going to be over. Second, I hated the main male character (Devdas). He was a whiny, self-involved, abusive brat. I would have been much happier had the main female character run off with the courtesan instead of them both pining for Devdas. Anyone got any good recommendations for Bollywood movies?
Meanwhile, I have five WIPs (all Stargate) on my computer. One is almost done (I think, assuming Julie doesn't kill it in beta (smooches)), and another is kind of almost-but-not-quite alive (also in beta with Julie, although at an earlier stage), and the rest are Good Ideas But Not There Yet. *sighs* The breakdown on ships:
Sam/Vala: 1
Sam/Jack: 2
Sam/Sha're/Daniel: 1
Sam/Ba'al (for which I am going to hell): 1
I would not, at this time, assume that you will ever see the Sam/Ba'al one, as I keep getting squicked by it myself and have to drop it like a hot potato half the time I open the file. I have high hopes for the Sam/Vala piece, and am going to keep my own counsel on the other three.
Someday I'm going to try writing gen again.
Have I spammed you all enough yet?

(And Ba'al keeps trying to weasel into other fics of mine. I HAVE A SNAKE IN MY HEAD.)

Date: 2008-09-23 06:52 pm (UTC)From:Oh, and my complaint was that Scully is not Super!Doctor for goodness sakes. She a pathologist. That's it. No one can go online and goggle some articles on stem cells and POOF! Instantly be able to preform advanced and experimental brain surgery. Cripes. But then again, they always did things like that on the show with her character so I guess it's at least consistent. Heh.

Date: 2008-09-24 02:36 am (UTC)From:My sister asked me if I wanted the movie for Christmas. I told her there was no way I was waiting until Christmas to get it - I'm going to have a hard time waiting until I get a job.
so the first X-Files movie is on my "Movies I Love Even Though I'm Pretty Sure Most People Don't" list.
I knew there was a reason I liked you so much. I have much love for that movie. How can you not?
"You haven't seen me panic. When I panic I make this face."
Love.
And I am looking forward to reading all your SG-1 fics. Hopefully including the Sam/Ba'al one. :)

Date: 2008-09-24 03:00 am (UTC)From:This is probably why I lost interest in the show around season five/six. :) But the early seasons are awesome, and Alex Cabot is fabulous - and I just realised if you've only seen season one you haven't even met her yet. Heh. So yes, there is subtext... soon.
