A Flash of Brilliance!
Dec. 3rd, 2007 04:30 pmI was reading the awesome chat transcript from
redial_the_gate, regarding TBFTGOG (There But For the Grace of God), and someone's question reminded me of a question I'd had, too:
Why in the world was Hammond a [mere] Colonel? What happened to his career?
AND I TOTALLY FIGURED IT OUT, GUYS.
It has to do with 1969. You see, when the team went back into the past, they told Hammond that he was a general, which made him know it was possible, and CHANGED HIS FUTURE to the one we know! Obviously, 1969 never happened in Our Very First AU in TBFTGOG.
It works! It really does! (And I'm sure someone has already posited this, but hey--I'm relatively new to the fandom!)
ETA: The fannish hive mind is at work again.
*facepalm*
...This theory does not, in any way, explain how in the hell Jack made general, though.
...It also doesn't explain the really strange scene with Cassie at the end of 1969. But I'm not sure anything could explain that. Unless maybe she was from another AU of some kind...but no. I have no idea.
