When I mentioned I hadn't ever seen West Wing a few weeks ago,
beanpot reacted with shock and outrage and promptly coaxed a promise out of me that I would put it next in my queue, right after I finished with SVU. I did just that. Currently, I'm in season two, having watched the first eight episodes of that season yesterday, and falling more and more in love with the show with each episode. Can these characters be any more awesome? (Bean assures me that yes, they can be, and will be, which I find hard to believe.) I love the relationships, and the banter, and the mistakes and corrections and and and. Yeah.
I'm not sure I would have appreciated it as much if I'd seen it when it was airing, or even just a couple of years ago, but right now it is awesome. I feel exceedingly late to the party, but hey--better late than never.
The show is also illustrating a certain point perfectly--I might at some point seek out fic to read, but doubt I'd ever write any. I'm getting exactly what I want from the show itself.
In weather news, instead of snow we are getting cold, cold wind. Okay, not that cold. But COLD. It's gorgeous, though--clear blue skies and winter-bare trees against the evergreens and that beautiful winter-gold sun. *sighs* I love driving this time of year, though not so much when I pass two very bad accidents in three days.
ultranos_fic was online with me last night when I dug out my sketch book, full of really, really bad drawings, mostly of ethereal women in long gowns because OMG legs are hard. I...wish I was kidding. *g* As far as talent goes, I didn't get much with drawing, but I totally enjoy it in a "I will never get human proportions right" kind of way. Did I ever mention that my roommates are both artists? They swear it is merely a matter of practice. Yeah.
I went to a funeral Friday. One of my friend from high school--we'd kept in touch through IM, mostly, though we weren't exceedingly close--passed away from complications with a surgery. I wish, now, that I'd made an effort to see him at least once since college. His service was depressing--not only because he had died, but because it was really rote and somber, and he was anything but. I know services aren't about making people enjoy themselves, exactly, but I do think there should be a sense of comfort, of personality. I hope his family found comfort together.
