Kaycee wrote about the J.K. Rowling lawsuit over the fan lexicon, and asked in a roundabout manner about fanfic.

Joe answered: "As for fan fiction as it applies to Stargate - Hey, why the hell not."

Which is not exactly a ringing endorsement, but is certainly something.

And then, I guess Anne Teldy must be the person who won the millionth viewer contest, who is supposed to have a character named after her.

Anne Teldy writes: “Thank you again, Mr. M. Whether she’s eaten by space cows, killed by Sheppard in his stick-fighting episode, or dies of poor hygiene due to the lack of bathing facilities in Atlantis, I’m sure you’ll write a memorable death scene for my namesake.”

Sounds like a deserving, humorous fan to me!

"As for fan fiction as it applies to Stargate - Hey, why the hell not."

I saw that too - nice! He has always seemed pretty cool with the idea of fan-generated content; he does get a little snippy when people want to *send it to him* ala "how can I send you my super-awesome SG script, Joe?" *rolls eyes*

I wonder if that woman who had lines with Chuck and Sheppard in Friday's ep will be named "Anne Teldy" in a future ep... he did say that character will get a name in Season 5! :) I didn't even bother to try and win - I figure there's already a "Katie" and there was a "Kate" on the show.

Loved the link to the PTB thing, 'cos YES! It sometimes seems like everyone and their dog has their own idea of where the 'gates should go (SGA, now days) and what constitutes a 'good' ep or arc or storyline.

And actually, that's the original source of my LJ name. I was over on a couple of forums (not Gateworld, but they tend to have much the same content) years ago and got so fed up with the different factions snarking at one another that I just wanted them all to STFU!

I don't care for fanservice either and I'm very leery of it in Atlantis. Some eps feel like fanservice to me. Of late, MGM had a poll up asking which pair of characters fans most like to watch. Then I surfed by someone's LJ riling up all the McShep folks to go vote as often as possible because their OTP was falling behind. By the time I got to the MGM page, McShep was ahead of all others by at wide margin.

Stuff like that annoys the crap outta me. Seriously.

Meh, ignore me. I've been a bit... moody as of late. Didn't mean to kvetch on your LJ.

Well, Stargate is not Star Trek, with mucho fan involvement in the actual show itself.

I don't generally comment on JM's blog, so I didn't bother to try. I like reading it enough. Though I keep trying on the "Get in the Gate" sweepstakes.

You know, some episodes of shows probably always feel like fanservice to someone or another. And I don't necessarily dislike it, myself, as long as that's not the only thing going on.

But then, I'm happy as long as Sam's somewhere.
