I think the Daniel/Vala was a general observation that lends itself very well toward shipping them. Because I see their acerbic relationship of teasing/annoyance as a hindrance to any true romantic relationship between them, and so I love to see them actually counting on each other and listening to each other.
But I can also ship Claudia Black with a paper bag, so...
