I wasn't going to watch it, I wasn't. I should have gone to bed, because I was up late the night before last, too, writing not!porn, and I had this work thing last night, and I have family night tonight, and then work thing, and then birthday party...but Annerb told me I should watch it, and so I did.
Okay, first of all, I have to say that the scene at the very beginning, with SG-9 arriving, and everyone working, and milling around, and the corridors nice and full, and then SG-1 coming through? Absolutely awesome. It set me in a nice squeeing zone, right off the bat. Also, can Amanda Tapping get any more beautiful? Seriously?
I have not much to say about Jack through the whole first bit, here, except that there were a couple of nice glances between teammates, and he stood next to Sam. YAY! (Really, that made me entirely too happeh.) Oh, and he mentioned cake, which, actually, I was all for.
Shows generally do time travel badly, but honestly, this was one of the most egregious examples of time travel in the history of science fiction. And that's including the episode of Flash Gordon where they only have 30 minutes in the future for the people in the past to fix things. Actually, that's rather like what they did here, a bit. People disappearing one by one! I was laughing so hard at the badness I had to pause the DVD for a few minutes, watch some more, pause again, and go and tell my roommates. Seriously. Bad.
You can tell how much I love this show, because the badness just made it endearing.
I loved the idea that they ended up in the ship, though, in the ice and with no time to really figure things out. And I ADORED Sam's reaction--just perfect, and devastated, but not overdone, and gah! *hearts* This whole next part, with them trying to explain as if it's going to make a difference, and then realizing that they don't have any RIGHT to change the timeline back..ouch. I loved the little touches of character here, although I would have liked a bit more angst from Daniel after his initial flippancy. I liked the initial flippancy, though--it seems very Daniel. "Oh, well, I could have died again." Bwah!
AMANDA TAPPING GOT MORE GORGEOUS HERE.
Ahem.
The only thing I didn't like about this was that, well...SG-1 knows better. They know Ba'al is coming. Why didn't they attempt to circumvent the restrictions on them? Why wasn't there hot, angsty Sam/Daniel or Sam/Cam or Sam/Cam/Daniel secks? Really!
(Or even Sam/Jack, which would be heinous, because I am assuming he's still married--but it would have been really interesting to see that connection play out. Eesh. Fandom has ruined my morals.)
Qetesh was awesome, and so was AU!Teal'c, and it was absolutely amazingly lovely to see all the System Lords again. And Ba'al. ! He was deliciously evil. And smart. And he died...TWICE (thrice?). LOTS. Yay.
I did wish Teal'c could have been himself more, but it WAS an interesting look at making a deal with the devil to get what he wanted. Ba'al knew which button to push, and Teal'c went along with it. And then, Sam telling him that they could help. GAH.
Daniel died, AGAIN, which, you know, was a nice homage. Sam's gotten to do a lot of heroic AU deaths recently, too, and the look on her face was just...yeah. Much angst, people?
Teal'c, once again, ROCKED.
After that it was Cam time, and reset time. I was pretty shocked that the whole thing reset, which I shouldn't have been, I guess, since this is Stargate. But honestly, would it kill them to have consequences for once? Really?
Still, a very decent ending for Ba'al, and a good moment for Vala, and hopefully they all went off and had cake and then started a food fight.
The End.
Wait. The end? NOOOOOOO! I think that was my biggest problem with this movie. It ended.
And that's what I think about that.

Yeah, I had no such problem with the idea... particularly I totally saw attraction between the two before he, y'know, thought she was nuts... (he called her "m'am!")
Besides, Jack could easily be not married or separated or anything... and poor Sam, all on her own with Froot Loops for a year.
Wait. The end? NOOOOOOO! I think that was my biggest problem with this movie. It ended.
Ditto. Also, could Amanda Tapping be more awesome? I don't think so.

Morals? Who needs morals?! This, I would read. I don't think it actually happened or anything (because Sam's all busy being lonely and frustrated and buying fruit loops), but I could absolutely buy it . . . angsty AU Sam/Jack. 'Cause that's not a fickink or anything.
Um, yes, Continuum rocked. :)

I can actually really see this. I think what with the way they were looking at him--I mean, he was dead--he'd be curious. And it would be totally reasonable for him to seek one of them out. Might as well be the not!dead astronaut. And then they have long talks about time travel, and au histories, and awkward pauses where Sam doesn't quite tell him about them, and then one day they have an argument and end up having sex, and then it's this thing, and eventually they save the world.
No, I haven't thought about this too much.

Also, yes to the Amanda getting more gorgeous. It's almost scary. But mostly it's just hot.
this was one of the most egregious examples of time travel in the history of science fiction
You know, I love time travel stories so much I don't even notice things like 'how completely ridiculous it is that people would just vanish' anymore. I never claimed to be a scientist, though. :)
Why wasn't there hot, angsty Sam/Daniel or Sam/Cam or Sam/Cam/Daniel secks?
Clearly, you need to write fic to rectify this situation.

I'm okay with it, mostly, just because I love SG-1 so much that they can't do much that I won't be on board with (providing the characters stay awesome.)
That, however, we agree on completely. :)
