I was going to do one big post with the three ficlets I'd written for the porn battle and then a couple of links, but the links got unmanageable, so I figured I'd better split them up.
First,
_minxy_, who ran
gateverse_remix this year (and did an excellent job, too), wrote a remix for ME. It is, of course, fabulous. Without Fear of Wind or Vertigo (The Joker's Wild remix), a remix of Jester's Silence, which is Teal'c and Vala prank wars during 'Unending.' Minxy does a fabulous job of fleshing out Vala and her reactions to the situation, in a way that made me ache for her and the others.
I still need to read the large majority of stories from the remix, and I hope to get to them soon.
Girls are as good at math as boys!.
The researchers found no difference in the scores of boys versus girls -- not even in high school. Studies 20 years ago showed girls and boys did equally well on math in elementary school, but girls fell behind in high school.
This study and article makes me smile. I've always known that, but now the research shows it. The Onion has a nice companion piece. I love humor that makes its point effectively in a very brief space.
This entry, about personalized cell phone rings, made me laugh until I cried. This is especially awesome for the church-going among you.

Date: 2008-07-31 10:24 pm (UTC)From:Yay for new math studies. I had a (male) friend in grad school that was of the 'girls are not wired for math and science' persuasion. I say friend because he was, but ... argh. I needed this sort of evidence then.

Bleh.
