holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (hanleia_argue)
I'm not as sick today, which means I'm barely ill, since yesterday "sick" consisted of a stuffy head and being just a little tired. Today I have a slightly stuffy head and feel otherwise fine. I'll take it.

Tomorrow I am going to a pirate party, and I will have earring and an eyepatch and be bringing a cake wreck a la CakeWrecks. It is going to be "chocolate with an overtone of pirates." See if you can figure out what I intend to make.

If you are a nerd like me, you probably have diagrammed sentences at some point in your life....and LIKED it. If so, you can take a look at Sentence Diagrams. Check out the examples from famous texts.

If you are a romantic like me, you might appreciate this video (with multi-fannish angst and kissing!):

Currently, my wireless at home sucks, so I may or may not be around on IM. *glares at new devil-router* Hopefully I'll get that fixed this weekend if not sooner.

What's not to like? They're jigsaw puzzles with words! And you draw lines like making a building!

What?

Don't ask me...I'm with you. *g*

Okay, so I never learned them. But I have to ask-- why not parse trees instead?

Well...considering I only knew of parse trees from your comment, and I've had a whole five minutes to look at them, I think that part of the appeal of sentence diagramming is the visual structure, showing how words relate to each other.

The main thing you lose with parse trees is back-references. Otherwise, the structure of the sentence is made really, really obvious-- you just have to read the pronouns as you would if you were reading the sentence.

You were sick yesterday, too?

I'm sorry!

Yeah. It sounds a lot more mild than yours, though. I was okay to be at work, so... *shrugs*

Yeah. I was at work long enough to mumble out "vomit" and then I hightailed it home. :(

Maybe you shouldn't have have stayed at my place, after all. You might've caught it there.

*hugs*

Aw, I didn't know you were sick. *sends hot chocolate*

Kissing yay! Caught me just in the right mood - I've spent most of this evening watching clips from The Slipper And The Rose (awfully daft musical from the... sixties? seventies? based on Cinderella).

And a cake wreck sounds fantastic. Is it going to be a... pirate flag? A giant eyepatch?

There's lots more romantic kissing videos, too. *sighs happily*

The cake...well, let's just say that my decorating skills are just up to a wreck. I think I'm going for a stick-figure of a ship. Should be entertaining, no matter what I end up with.

Sorry to hear you were sick too! :( I'm glad to hear you are feeling better today, hope you feel 100% soon.

I will have to check out the word diagrams link, bc like you I always thought those were the coolest thing to do!

I'll also check out the vid when I'm home :)

Thanks! All day today I've been feeling better by increments. By 8:00 a.m. tomorrow I should be perfectly healthy again. :-)
