holdouttrout: (Skeptic)
My question, brought on by boredom and a leftover cupcake from yesterday's birthday celebration, is this:

Would Jack count cupcakes as cake?

Because they really are cake, in one sense, but...they're cupcakes. I never think of cake and cupcakes as essentially the same thing, even though they are.

Right?

And now I've decided I want cake-themed fic. *trundles off to search the web*

Okay, so this post makes me look crazy, too, but trust me, the other one was crazier.

ETA: Wait! Have a couple of sweets before you go. I'll share! I'm nice!

A Stargate-Themed Wedding Cake.
[livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum wrote What Would Jack Do? (A series of ficlets) that mentions cake. A lot. *grins*
[livejournal.com profile] aurora_novarum also wrote The Lollipop Guild, which ALSO mentions cake.
Jojo wrote Just Don't Eat the Cake, which is Sam/Jack under the influence of really delicious pastry, and one of the most hilarious fics EVER.

Individually frosted cakes, according to Nerus. *g* Jack would just think of them as 'convenience cakes' because they don't require utensils. And you could throw one in the pocket of a TAC vest. Well, that's my take on it.

And this one doesn't make you look crazy?

Cupcakes and cake are the same thing. One is just portable and doesn't require utensils. And stuff. (Much easier to smuggle into certain astrophysicist's labs as well.)

Why did I let you get me talking about this? Lol.

Hey! I totally mentioned that this post was crazy, too. Or did I make that type too tiny?

Now that I've got you talking... why not try writing? Because smuggling cupcakes into astrophysicist's labs sounds like fun...

Hmmm. This has potential. Although cupcakes might not fare too well over time in a TAC vest.

I am writing fasting. You know, like the idea that if you fast before Thanksgiving you can eat more when that marathon comes along. Only I'm doing it with writing and for NaNo. Though I should probably write a cheat sheet with all the characters' names and such. My protagonist sadly still has no name. Time to skim the spam email folder for names again, I suppose.

I don't have any names yet, either. I need to work on that, I think.

IMHO, the only crazy thing about this post is the fact that you tagged it as meta. I find that hilarious.

Date: 2009-10-23 07:06 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com
Well, here are the ones from my spam folder:
Tad Wray
Valery Mayovich
Leonid Vladislavovich
Avvakuum Semenovich
Jacklyn Ellis
Joseph Konstantinovich
Nastya V.

Those sound like reasonably scifi-y names, right? Lol

But they'd still taste the same when they're mushed up, and you can eat them with your fingers. Or somebody else's fingers. Should you choose.

This is true!

Or somebody else's fingers.

Hmmm...

Hee! Yeah, they do. Too bad I'm writing fantasy this year...

Are you going with the sci-fi idea, then?

Hee. Well, it STARTED as meta. And then devolved. But hey, cake!

Date: 2009-10-23 07:22 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] annerbhp.livejournal.com
Yeah, scifi. In so much as it takes place on a space station. God, I'm so much less confident this year after last year's implosion. Eep!

"Nastya" sounds like the perfect name for a villain, no? Snerk.

Hmmm... I think of cupcakes as cakes, but I don't know that Jack would... I suspect he'd have some deeply-felt reason to insist that they totally don't count. I don't think he'd be satisfied by cupcakes if cake was what he wanted.

But then I think he'd also say that carrot cake didn't count, either.

Someone once wrote a fic about the ladies who did laundry for the SGC. It involved this hilarious discussion about the things that were left in the pockets, and I really think one item in Jack's set was a cupcake! :D

Cake will do that to you. Alien cake, anyway. Here on Earth it's the Twinkies™ that'll lead to trouble.

I remember that one! Not the name or the author, of course.

But then I think he'd also say that carrot cake didn't count, either.

On this, Jack and I are in perfect agreement. Carrot cake is not cake. It's vegetables (and fruit, if there are raisins, which is even more wrong) staging an ambush in an otherwise delicious food.

(Of course, I don't like coconut, and I bet Jack doesn't mind that.)

Although perhaps he would count it as vegetable cake and thus serving double duty. You know, the Bill Cosby definition of nutrition.

"It has eggs! And milk! That's nutrition!"

And um...YAY! Cake!

Note to trout: Awww, thanks for the recs! I totally need to make a dessert tag for my fic, don't I?

You really do need a dessert tag. I am quite amused by the fact that my most easily-accessible cake-fics were both by you.

Date: 2009-10-23 07:36 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] lizbet0.livejournal.com
I can just hear Jack discussing it with Sam:

"They're cake, but...not."

"Of course, sir."

(Heh. This why I don't write fic. It kinda sucketh. grin}

Jojo's "Just Don't Eat the Cake" is one of my favorite fics *ever*!
