Okay, so apparently there's this show called 'Twin Peaks.' *grins*
I'd never watched it, and the most I'd seen about it was the name and some vague ideas like it was one of the best shows ever. Anyway, there's a rewatch going at
wherepiesdie (I just watched the episode with the part that gives the comm its name), and I decided that I needed to join.
Mind you, I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about this show. Not even who is in it. So I start, as one does, with the pilot. I've since watched through "Rest in Pain."
So there's this girl named Laura, and she's dead. She's sort of this sweet, all-american looking girl, only she's also been dealing coke (maybe) or going around with weird people or something. And she has a boyfriend who's seeing a married woman, and Laura's secretly going out with James, who is secretly in love (he thinks) with Donna.
So then there's Agent (Special Agent) Cooper, who loves pie and coffee and has incredibly freaky dreams.
And the silent drape runners!?
I swear I spend half the time wondering what the hell I'm supposed to be thinking. Is this moment serious or hilarious? I can't quite make up my mind. *g*
All the characters seem a little crazy. Some seem a LOT crazy. And there are these really hilarious moments followed by really serious moments followed by moments I'm not sure how to read, but then the characters kinda poke at it... I just don't know!
Like... okay, so in this last ep, they have Laura's burial, and her dad goes nuts and throws himself on the coffin and the lift mechanism breaks and so he's riding the coffin up and down out of the grave. It's incredibly sad and hilariously funny, but just so ODD that I wasn't quite sure how to react. And then, in the next scene, another character is describing it, and they're laughing, and it makes me even more confused!
Anyway, I think I like it. I *think* I'm starting tounderstand feel more at home in the madness. It feels a LITTLE like watching Farscape--that same kinda "Throw the audience in and see if they swim" feeling, you know? And the weird humor. And the sax. Can't forget the sax.
knightedrogue, that's for you. If you're reading this.

Date: 2010-01-16 04:59 am (UTC)From:As a fan and FirstWatcher of TwinPeaks, my advice to you is this:
Go with it. The confusion and mystery are part of the thrill.
Milk the weirdness.
Try the pie.
Love the log.

Seriously, it's crack and you'll bend your brain trying to make sense of it. Just enjoy the ride.

Date: 2010-01-16 06:58 am (UTC)From:I was minoring in film at the time, so I mainly watched it for the hotness of Kyle MacLachlan & Sherilyn Fenn and the cinematic weirdness of David Lynch and the music.
The story made no sense to me, so I vaguely followed it, but it was like watching a very soapy anti-soap opera on crack.
And like most good things, it was cancelled before its time.
Hmm, I'm adding the DVDs to my Amazon wishlist now...
