holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (OT3traditional)
Nothing about Legend of the Seeker today, my friends. (Other than in an ep yesterday, someone yelled "Richaaaaard!" and I totally burst out laughing. Again.)

My hair is curly, and right now it's probably the longest it has ever been. It's about halfway down my back when wet and straight, and only a little shorter when curly. I'm thinking about going short again--NOT tomorrow, but sometime. Maybe.

I thought about doing a poll, but then I thought maybe I'd just share an embarrassing hair story instead.

When I was in eighth grade, I was growing out my bangs. I wore a headband to keep them out of my face. The same headband. Every. Single. Day. Not only that, it was an incredibly huge and stylish tortoiseshell headband.

When my mother *finally* had enough, she made me see that I needed to get rid of it and then I walked around feeling naked for several days until I got used to it. I have thanked her for this since. :-)

Anyone got more embarrassing stories?

You mean like the time I cut my hair really short and then permed it and walked around looking like George Washington?

Ah hah hah! Exactly. Although that's kinda awesome... did you use powder, too? *g*

I just got my hair cut short. I had worked so hard to grow my hair out, it was a really tough decision to get it all cut off again.

Oh, I have tons of embarrassing hair stories. I should post the picture of the haircut I got in 9th grade that made me look like I was 50. But I tell you 2 stories.

Embarassing hair story #1
I took a picture of Sam in Season 8 of SG-1 to my hairdresser and got my hair cut like hers. It actually looked really good and I got tons of compliments. Then I went to Memphis to visit a friend and fellow scifi fan. He kept staring at me all day and finally he asked, "Did you get your hair cut like Sam Carter's?" I, of course, denied it, but it was so true. And I was very impressed that he was enough of a hair connoisseur to figure it out.

Embarrassing story #2

One year for DragonCon I decided to dye my hair purple, because if you can't have purple hair at DCon where can you? So I bought some temporary dye. Instead of purple I got maroon, because my hair was already dyed red. An my roots where my hair was it's natural brown where greyish. It wasn't actually a big deal. When I got home I had to strip out the color, because I worked in a very conservative environment. After I stipped the color out, I put a shade of auburn on it. Instead of getting auburn, my hair was Raggedy Ann red and not uniformly. There were also clumps of hot pink and cotton candy pink. I had to put a hat on and rush to WalMart at 10PM to buy a basic brown to cover it up. But by that point my hair was so porous that the dye was just soaked up and I ended up with jet black hair. With my pasty skin I looked like a goth chick. I took me months to get it straightened out and evolve into a decent color.

Okay, so there is no way Sam's hair would work for me, but I can see it being totally awesome, and that's hilarious that your friend noticed. You should have just said yes. He might have proposed on the spot. *grins*

I'm desperately afraid of dying my hair because 1) it's somewhat dark and 2) I LIKE my hair color, darn it, and am afraid to mess it up and 3) it's fairly fragile, and what if I BREAK IT? So yeah. I've done temporary dye once, and it was so close to my natural color that no one could tell.

That one instance notwithstanding, I've never had any problems with hair color. I've bee getting it highlighted since high school and dying it some shade of red for the last 6 or 7 years. My hair is pretty think though and I try to keep it well conditioned.

If you really want to try out color go to a really good salon and one that uses the new non-toxic dyes that are less harsh and maybe get some highlights and see how you feel about it.

You do have really pretty hair. It is a nice color, very rich. And I would kill for your curl. ; )

I spent most of my life between the ages of 8 and 18 walking around with the type of haircut women in business would get in the early 1990s. You know, the short, vaguely fluffy bowl cut? Oh, yes.

All this reminds me that I am getting my hair cut on Friday and am pondering doing something different. I just don't know what that might be. Hmm!

I, too, had a short cut in junior high that make me look WAY older. At the time, I thought it was awesome. Looking back, I can see that I was just really out of touch with my peers. *g*

Hee! Well, I'm not promising anything, but I really ought to have taken photos of my hair yesterday... it was fabulous!

I have a story,

Between the ages of 5- 10 I got a perm every six months.

The end. Just kidding, the perms actually didn't look that bad. The problem was in second grade on picture day. Having permed hair you had to style it and get the knots out a certain way. My mother had it down, unfortunately she was working that day and it was up to my dad and my brother to do my hair. We were running late and they had no idea what to do, so I got my picture taken with a huge knot on the left side of my head. My mother was so mad when she got the pictures.

Ah hah hah. Oh, I'm so sorry. At least it made for an entertaining picture, no?

My freshman year of college I had a perm (we won't go into the whys), but my suite-mates convinced me to go back to my natural straight hair. How? Reverse perm - use the perm solution and instead of rolling up your hair, just comb it through straight. So five of us loaded up into one girl's car (the only one who *had* a car) and drove to the drugstore to get what we needed. On the way back, my friend got pulled over for speeding. When we finally got back, we performed Operation Straight Hair in our shared bathroom. The solution smell was so strong we stunk up the entire building (it was only a 4-story), but everyone was so impressed with my new look that they forgave us for making the place reek!

Hee! I'm glad it all turned out okay. I've often thought of getting my hair relaxed so I can have straight hair without fuss for a while, but I've never gotten up the courage to do it.

my mom was convinced for years that i'd look good with farah fawcett's hair style from her days on charlie's angles (the long shagg she said it was called) so i finally agreed to get it. only it ended up looking like a mullet. the worst part is my mom's mother passed on 2 weeks later so relatives who i hadn't seen in years & a few that i never met saw me like that. my mother never recommend a hairstyle for me again.

Hee! Maybe I should have let my mother at my hair once... only it turned out she was RIGHT, drat it all.
