I have been so busy today this is the first time I check my e-mail. And it's lunchtime. Man. I haven't even read my lj for at least a couple of DAYS. What is WRONG with the world?

(Note: I still haven't read lj, so if there's something Really Important, let me know, otherwise I'll catch up someday.)

Of course, I did read a really fluffy romance novel. This author's pretty good, but I can't help myself anymore... sex scenes in (almost all) romance novels are just unbelievably hilarious. I really don't need to read about perfect [everything] all the time, thank you.

Also, WHAT is the deal with every heroine somehow magically becoming the mostest beautiful woman EVER? HELLO. In the last book she was slightly frumpy, and now she's the toast of the town? GAH. Where are my ugly/fat heroines I can actually relate to?

Er. Sorry about that.

Anyway, before I forget, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] syxp and happy (early) birthday to [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia_4077. You are both amazing and I love you and I hope you have fantabulous birthdays!

Word. The bar has been raised. OTOH, it's nice that (some) fanfic is so much better written than (some) pro fic, particularly when it comes to sex scenes. I read some of the entries to the Bad Sex Award and think, "damn, if they just hung around fanfic, they'd know to avoid that!"

Hee. SO true. "Look, we know you didn't know any better, but that's no excuse for this kind of thing! Really, what you're describing just sounds painful and/or way too coordinated."

About halfway through this book, it turned from a fun, tension-filled not!courtship to a forced marriage book, and normally I love that trope, but I remember looking at my place in the book and thinking, "but now they're just going to have sex!"

*thinks it may be time to re-read Venetia*

I snorfle at pretty much all sex scenes in the romance fluff I read (mind, you sometimes it's because I'm thinking "Did I actually just read that? WTF? SEX DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!!")

I think one of my favourite ugly/fat heroines is probably Josephine Essex in "Pleasure for Pleasure" by Eloisa James - though much of my love for that is because it's book 4 of the series and thus the story of my FAVE hero Mayne (who also appeared in her previous quartet) - I have much glee for that book

Eloisa James! I like her characters, generally. I will have to check that book out. :-)
