I woke up at dark o'clock this morning to the sound of buzzing.

Not an alarm kind of buzzing, either. No, this was an indeterminate kind of buzzing, and it sounded like it was either right outside my wall, or inside my wall.

Because this is me (the girl who once thought a low battery beeping from a phone was obviously a BOMB planted in her packed college boxes--hey, I had just spent most of the night watching Alias), I didn't imagine anything small. Or, at least, not just one small thing.

Skip past the next paragraph if bugs creep you out.

No, I imagined a hoarde of tiny little termites, wings buzzing, about to break through the wall and crawl over my face, burrowing into my blankets. Or a big wasp, stinger pointed right at my eye.

It's safe to look now.

The other image the sound brought to mind was a phone, happily vibrating away in my sock drawer.

After a few not-so-hilarious antics, I finally did find the source of the noise--a BIG, SCARY (almost dead) BUG. WITH WINGS. I put it out of its misery, shuddered, and went back to sleep.

Obviously, the person you needed to call was me. Bugs simply don't bother me. Drives my three daughters, and my Big (6'1") Bold Brave husband nuts! It's just not natural they say. My son simply finds it very convenient. "Mom? There's a big thing with wings over here. Could you take it out?"

Now heights...

I ignored a similar buzzing about a week ago, and eventually the insect escaped from the dropped ceiling, fell into my lap, and stung me in the thigh. So good on you for investigating properly. It must be the season when bugs come indoors to die.

Good thing (this time) that Jack wasn't with you--you know his "insane aversion to bugs" (which I share).

Glad you found it and it's no longer there to scare or bother you.

I'm so glad I found it. I don't mind bugs in general... as long as they are not 1) near my bed or 2) in the shower. Or crawling all over me. *shudders*

I shudder at the very thought of crawling and think of poor Jack, dealing with replicators--that must have been a special hell for him.
