holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (Helen_smile)
So, in addition to spending time watching Sanctuary, I've been using it to help me learn how to rip DVDs and put the episodes on my iPod. It's been fun. :-) I can now create little tiny digital files... and I know how to make them show up as episodes of TV shows... in the right order! *does boogie dance of technological joy*

Let's see. I've watched 'The Five,' 'Edward,' 'Requiem,' and 'Warriors' since I last posted, I think. It's amazing how much I've forgotten from this show.

I really loved 'The Five,' of course, with Tesla making everything awesome--do we know what he was up to between his faked death and now? Also, Helen didn't look terribly surprised he was still alive--did she really not know where he was? If these questions have been answered in canon, just know that I'm very forgetful.

It occurred to me again just how reckless the Five really were. They had no idea of the consequences of their experiment with the blood, and it really didn't turn out very well for them in a lot of ways. The random results seem to be another indicator that they were playing with things way beyond what they could understand at the time.

'Edward' really is a nice little monster mystery story, with a twist from the horrible to the heartbreaking. I liked the multiple hypotheses the group had before coming across the truth--and think the ending with the case disappearing was mysterious and underplayed.

'Requiem.' Oh, MAN. I love this ep. I love that the parasite takes control but doesn't override the personality/intelligence--we know Helen can be ruthless, and so even though she would never do what she's doing for herself normally, she still has that edge. I forgot just how quickly we knew Helen was the one affected, though--the teaser starts to create suspense that maybe Will is the one out of control, and then it's gone almost immediately.

Still, getting to see Helen kicking Will's ass and being all kinds of dangerous and scary? AWESOME.

'Warriors.' It didn't make me laugh as much this time through, probably because I was expecting the ridiculous suit, and also I was watching on a very tiny screen. I'd forgotten this is where Gregory shows up first--to be honest, I barely remember a lot of his plotty stuff, so I better not say much more or I'll reveal the depths of my ignorance.

No, but Ankaret's The Great Game works pretty well for me.

Also, Helen didn't look terribly surprised he was still alive--did she really not know where he was?

Doesn't she say in The Five that she was the one who faked his death? I think she knew he was alive, but didn't know where he was, or knew only some of the time.

they were playing with things way beyond what they could understand at the time.

It's serious mad-scientist stuff, isn't it? I love though that Helen wasn't afraid of anything even then.

I love the idea of Requiem, but don't enjoy it much. I usually get bored in the episodes with just Helen and Will, even if they're awesome.

Warriors makes me cringe in so many ways. The costuming, ugh. I'm glad Gregory's alive, but, um. I think the way they introduce him is just bad. And while I like the actor as a person, and I think it's awesome that they hired someone with a disability to play someone without a disability, I kind of hate his acting. (Have you seen Highlander? He was in Highlander.)

Sanctuary squee yay!

Edited for proofreading fail.

It does say she faked his death, but they don't specifically say she knew he was for sure still alive, either. I find it *really* odd that Tesla hadn't tried plans for world dominion before then. *g*

Heh. I must admit that Will is kinda not as interesting as he ought to be...

I have seen very, very little of Highlander (we're talking the series, right?), and it was way, way back in the day. So unfortunately, I don't remember the actor. The way they introduce him is SO WEIRD. It's a TOTALLY bizarre ep to introduce him, and then the whole dynamic is strange... but because I knew that's how I reacted the first time, I think it went better this time around.

Yeah. Unfortunately, I think Robin Dunne is the weakest actor in the cast. Emilie Ullerup was weaker, but now it's just poor Will. IMO, YMMV, etc. etc.

Yes, Highlander the series. My very first fandom. *sniff*
