Every time I post these days I feel like I need to apologize profusely and come bearing fic--but I am not going to jinx anything by actually talking about fic here. Shhh.

I don't even want to know how long it has been. I suspect longer than I have been pet-sitting, or I would use that as an excuse. So here's some things that have happened recently:

1. Fall meetings are starting up again. This is both happy and a little scary. I will have at least one fewer night at home from now until December.

2. My laptop battery... well, it didn't quite blow up, but it did do alarming things that suggest I should probably not use it for the time being. As in, ever again. So that's fun.

3. I caught up on the teamy, wonderful, awesome goodness of Leverage! Oh, so much fun. I'm with Parker--Nate's getting creepier, but I kinda like him that way. And I also think the whole Nate/Sophie thing is cute, ridiculous, and going to blow up in their faces.

4. I have also seen a couple of eps of Necessary Roughness, which is cute, and Misfits, which is anything but, but is very interesting.

5. Awkward fannish question time! Way back in the day, one of the shows I didn't watch but secretly wanted to* was Lexx. Turns out it's available on hulu, so I watched eps 1 and 2... does it get any better? Because I'm kinda intrigued but... well, honestly, I'm a little bored.

6. I saw the new Jane Eyre movie and LOVED IT. I love Jane, and this movie made me remember why. The quips! The naivete! Her firmness in pursuing her own happiness! Plus, I love moody atmospheric things. Still don't quite know what to think about Rochester, but I think I liked him a bit better this time around.


*Most anything with hints of sex/sexual tension fell into this category--I blame it on my conservative upbringing.

Re: Lexx Erm... I'm not really sure that it gets any better, but... the universe it's set in gets kind of interesting. I found all the sex stuff interesting and strange and kind of uncomfortable in ways (and I'm definitely not all that conservative in that regard). So I guess I can say that I found the universe interesting.

Back in the day, my dad would come visit and SyFy aired it on Saturday mornings. One morning I got up and he was watching and asked me, "What the fuck *is* this?"

I recently found a Lexx DVD in a bargain bin somewhere and haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Because it's kinda... yeah. Odd, weird, uncomfortable in ways... though I wouldn't necessarily say boring. Just really weird. SyFi wasn't showing it in order, either, so it was pretty disjointed.

I think maybe I'm not going to give it much more time. The universe DOES seem interesting, but the pacing, and the characters... well, I'm just not hooked. I might try one more ep... usually three is a good indicator of whether or not something is going to grab me.

Nate is definitely creepier, but he keeps getting more awesome, so it's okay. I do hope they find a way to have Nate and Sophie work out, because while I know it's totally going to blow up in their faces, I love them together way too much to actually want it to happen. We shall see in November! Yay Leverage!

*laughs* Lexx ... yeah. I have to say it doesn't actually get better, but I found it entertaining for a season or so (it helped that I was watching it in realtime rather than marathoning) before I'd had enough of the weird, disjointed, WTF of it and the fact that the characters never really grew as people. Every once in a while, it could be really sweet, and like shutthef_up said, the universe is kind of interesting -- or at least, it's the most unique sci-fi universe that I've seen on TV since I don't know when. But all in all, it's a show that I wished was better than it was.

It is an interesting universe, but... just not grabbing me! Oh, well. Maybe it'll be on hulu for a while and I can just grab an ep whenever I'm really bored. *g*
