holdouttrout: parrot that says *thinks at you* (telepathic_parrot)
You guys, I am SO IN LOVE with this show all over again. Though season three is making it rather hard not to fall back into my rabid Sam/Jack shipper ways. *uses obscurely appropriate icon that may or may not be available over on lj these days*

There are looks, you guys. Some of them are looks that express things. Okay, mostly things like, "I find you amusing even though I think it says bad things about my sense of humor, sir," or "Carter, I still don't understand what you just said, but I'm hoping you're right." Or other things like, "Uh oh, Daniel's got that alien princess/leader/artifact thing going on again." But Still. Looks.

Also, there is much OT3 subtext. And OT4. And Sam/Teal'c. And fun teamy friendship.

I just watched Shades of Grey, and Jack was a total ass. I really hope they gave him crap for quite a while. I mean, yes, understandable, but wow. Total ass.

I am still not quite sure what to think about One Hundred Days. I think... I think maybe I just wish it ended a bit differently, but I'm not sure exactly how. I even like Laira, but... augh. I have a sneaking suspicion my ambivalence *might* come from my Sam/Jack proclivities. Maybe.

On the other hand, Urgo just makes me giggle the whole way through. I love that Teal'c gets to take part in the wacky alien influence this time around, because he often has to be the odd man out--this is always blamed on Junior, and while it does make some sense, it also means that he gets left out of some fun shenanigans.

I agree with your discomfort with One Hundred Days. The framing of that shot at the end makes it clear that we are supposed to see Jack's farewell to Laira through Sam's eyes, and her discomfort with it. Even without shipper goggles, that's clearly designed to be a part of how we read that scene. You and I see it as Sam doing all that work to get him back because she (secretly) loves him, only to see this, and the gen folks see Sam did all that work to get him back because she knows he wants rescue, only to see his reluctance to return. And yet the tension it must have caused is never in any way acknowledged in subsequent episodes. It's just as maladroit as Daniel falling for Ke'ra in the episode that comes right after the death of Sha're. Maybe there was a six month gap in SGC time between One Hundred Days and Shades of Grey, likewise Forever in a Day and Past and Present, but to the viewer only a week has gone by (assuming the original broadcast schedule). It's jarring.

I have SO MANY THOUGHTS on Shades of Grey and A Hundred Days and every time I try to tally them, they're different.

But: URGO.

Yes. I... cannot quite seem to quantify All The Thoughts about those two episodes.

My husband & I adore Urgo! We kept it on our TiVo for years, and still go back to it through Netflix now! (It's rather silly how often we quote lines along with it!)

It's a very fun episode. "Death... or me!"

Some of our favorite parts are Teal'c: "It was most satisfying." "That was not his intention." And Sam: "Urgo, that's rude!" {snicker} I love how Janet's immediately kind of insulted and wants to know what Urgo said.

And (as you mentioned) the looks! Sam & Jack when they're seeing the fake beach scene before they go back, and Urgo says something about Maui & teeny-tiny bikinis! {dies laughing} Jack's face is all No, no way, I wasn't the one thinking of bikinis! That wasn't me! and Sam is thinking Yeah, right, sir...Jeez, you're such a guy!

Dom was such a treasure in that episode! He is missed.

You know, I used to think my issues with the end of "A Hundred Days came from my Sam/Jack proclivities, but I'm pretty sure now it just comes from my love of Sam. She just looks so damn hurt when he walks off mid-sentence and then tells Laira he isn't happy to be going home. Because she fought so hard and reinvented science for him, and it's like she did it for nothing. It just breaks my heart to see her like that. And I feel the same way when she sees Ascended!Daniel on Abydos, so I don't think it's a shipper thing.

Huh. It appears I still have strong feelings on this matter. :)

URGO!!!

(Watching Continuum has whet my appetite, and I've been trying to decide where to start a re-watch. I think I might have to start with Nemesis and jump right into the joy of season four. Perhaps we can coordinate?)

Oh! And the parrot! It didn't show up on the lj post so I had to go to DW but it was totally worth it. Telepathic parrots FTW!

Well, at the rate I'm going, it will take more just a day or three to get to season 4. :-)

And yes, it's definitely partly the way he flat out ignores Sam. Bah.
