I have realized that I'm quite fannish about certain parts of Once Upon a Time, specifically the Snow White Kicks Ass show. I like the other shows that air alongside that one okay, like the Belle Knows Books Save Lives show and the Mulan Deals with Aurora show and the Hook Wears Eyeliner show.
The only problem is that I'm not a big fan of the Rumpelstiltskin Makes Bad Decisions and Deserves Our Pity show, which seems to be on a lot more than necessary.
But that's okay! I have fannish thoughts about this episode!
1. How in the WORLD did they find that girl actor for Snow? It's just so eerie how much she acts like adult Snow.
2. Thank goodness that it was poison, because my mother kept asking me what was wrong with Eva, and all I could think of was Victorian Novel Wasting Disease.
3. I really thought Snow might take that dagger and stab someone. I was pretty relieved that she did give up the dagger, even though arguably it would have been the best decision to sacrifice Johanna. I mean, it was pretty obvious that Johanna was going to die either way, but Snow had to at least try for the possibility of saving her.
4. The good guys need better magic, because seriously. They can't even stop an innocent from plummeting to her death? *sighs* Tied into my frustration with this is my confusion about where the Emma Swan is More Awesome Than You show is hiding.
5. Look, people. Henry IS being passive-aggressive, but I can't really blame him. He's been lied to his entire life about who he really is, about who everyone around him really is, and he asked Emma to please just be honest with him about his father... and she wasn't. Twice. So, yeah, he's annoying, but that doesn't mean that what Emma did was right (understandable, maybe, but not right).
6. Also, if I were writing this show, Emma's story would be about her coming around to dealing in the truth no matter the immediate cost (think like how Snow seems to deal in mercy no matter the long-term cost). Her "power" (which may or may not exist, but I'm assuming it does and the contradictions are bad writing*) is the ability to tell if someone is lying. What if it's tied to her own truthfulness as well? In that way, maybe her journey is opposite Snow's.
Is that enough for now? I think so.
*I admit, this is mainly just because I want the Emma Snow is More Awesome Than You show.

Maybe it'll be a LOVE CONQUERS ALL type winning? And since Emma is the embodiment of True Love, she'll kick everyone's ass at the end? I dunno. :D

Mwah. I love pizza and video games and Transformer BECAUSE THEY DON'T LIE.
And I keep forgetting that Emma has that "power." Seems like the writers did too.

I had a problem with Mary Margaret handing over the dagger. I really did because of that standoff, she didn't recognize the leverage she had. (Although I'm not sure what she could do with the dagger right then unless she had acid or somehting to destroy it. She was probably counting more on Regina's humanity at that moment than she should've.)
I like Rumple being complex, but he was getting a bit more overexposed.
