First, I just finished an eight-week running program that is, theoretically, a Couch to 5K program. However, it's all done by time, and I am slow, so I just ran a little over 2 miles in 35 minutes.
The important part here is that I. Ran. For. Thirty-Five. Minutes. Straight.
Me.
I felt so good I ALMOST thought that it might be fun to keep running. :-)
I hesitate to put this out there, but I feel like it might be useful or encouraging knowledge for someone: I haven't lost a pound since I started running--and no, I wasn't trying to lose any weight. I haven't changed my eating habits and I haven't gone up or down a size, either. It's certainly possible that I am eating more calories, but I haven't felt like I'm eating a ton more than I was before. I DO feel much stronger and way more fit--it's constantly surprising to me how much MORE I can do without feeling out of breath. Anyway, there's some anecdotal evidence for you to use as you see fit.
... and now for the Sharks!
I wasn't able to actually watch Sharknado, but I almost don't care. People's tweets last night made me happy, and I have a few links to keep here for maximum joy:
(All of these have spoilers.)
Cleolinda compiles everything she knows about Sharknado
The writer of Sharknado answers some very serious questions
A beautiful review of a beautiful movie
The fact that this happened means that there will always be hope for humanity

Muscle weighs more than fat because it's more dense. I never used to lose any weight when I played competitive hockey and was training four days a week. I just kind of changed shape. The important thing is that you're feeling good doing it. Everything else is irrelevant.

Date: 2013-07-12 08:17 pm (UTC)From:Honestly, I think the energy and cardiovascular awesomeness is totally worth the pain on its own. Even just resting or sitting at my desk I feel so much better. (Now I just need to work on my posture.)

Date: 2013-07-12 07:15 pm (UTC)From:As my own weight-related aside, I stopped exercising (by virtue of broken ankle) for going on 20 weeks. (We're working back. Slowly.) For a while I was eating a whole lot, now I'm probably eating a little less than I used to as my body figures out what it needs for healing and progress. BUT! I haven't gained any weight. My body clearly knows how much it wants to weigh, it's just shifted in where it's putting that weight and how it's managing it.
Which is a really long way to say: if you feel fitter and stronger, YAY! And that I am jealous of your progress, because after this much time off, getting back into exercise is going to be a bear. And that bodies are weird, man. :)

I'll take running up the stairs any day!
