holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (sam_vala)
Author's Note: This may or may not be the first in a series of letters. If there are more, it will be written with me writing Vala's letters, and Annerb writing Sam's. The reason it might not be is that [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp and I are busy busy people who are contemplating the insanity of finishing fics before deadlines and then, just for kicks, doing NaNoWriMo. :-)

Spoilers: Season 4 of SGA
Rating: Well, this is fairly tame, but you never know with Vala.

Dear Samantha,

I know it's only been a few hours since you left for the Pegasus Galaxy, but I had to get this down on paper before Daniel and I go on our date tonight. (He refuses to acknowledge that it's a date, as usual, but I'll wear him down eventually. After all, when the guy pays for everything, one ought to be able to call it like it is.)

I realized, after you left, that I had completely forgotten to give you the advice I'd picked up over the years about being in a new place.

(Oh! And I just wanted to say that it absolutely does count if you pay the guy back later because you're not allowed to have credit cards anymore. Which really--you could have warned me about just how expensive those shoes were.)

The first thing is to never show fear. Unless you're faking in order to lull your opponent into a false sense of security, in which case it's a good idea to not over-exaggerate. But you're not likely to be double-crossing the Atlantis expedition in order to steal one of their ships, so I doubt this applies.

The second thing is to take advantage of your people. I don't mean that way. Well, I do, but only if he is very hot, and if you can run away quickly when discovered by his wife.

Which leads to my third piece of advice--always know your exits. Atlantis may seem confusing at first, but really, I had no trouble getting around after a few hours. (Although the security teams did start to get a little annoyed the third time I set off the alarms.)

I've got to dash off now, so I'll just seal this letter up and send it once I get back from dinner. Or...breakfast?

Love,

Vala

P.S. I found these in my quarters and thought I should probably return them to you. Shouldn't have left them there--I thought they were mine and almost wore them tonight!
