2009 Fic Roundup

It is now time, once again, for the annual fic roundup! I didn't write as much this year, or, rather, I didn't post as much fic. I was involved in the [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout challenge, and signed up to write 200,000 words. I wrote 163,341. I had a few issues with the comm and won't be doing it again next year, but I was glad to find out that 200,000 is about 100,000 too many words for me, at least if I want time for editing, also. I had a lot of fics that stalled out this year because editing is so much more work than writing the initial draft, and that made me sad.

The Ever-Important Questions:

My Favorite Stories of the Year:
My favorite this year, without question, is Echoes, because I think I nailed Sam in Continuum, and because it was just fun to play with all that angst.

My Best Stories This Year:
Undoubtedly Echoes. I am really proud how it turned out, and that people liked it as much as I thought they should. *g* I also think Upper Hand was one of my best stories, along with Five People (or Beings) Who Inhabit the SGC. Both of those were different fics for me, and I think they turned out pretty well.

Stories most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Hmm. I don't really feel there's a clear answer to this one this year.

Stories I Wrote That I Never Thought I'd Write:
Well, I really never thought I'd write Care Bear/My Little Pony plushie porn, so yeah. I'm gonna have to go with Newcomer.

Most Fun Stories:
All of the ones I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp's icon posts: Sam and Jack Trouble Ficlets, Penarious, and No Flirting. They are all fun and cute. :-)

Sexiest Stories:
Icing, for sure. Also Modulation. Both are quite porny. :-)

Hardest Stories to Write:
And Then I Dreamt of Yes, which had serious plot issues from the start and didn't quite end up what I wanted it to be even at the end. It also took WAY too many months to finish.

Easiest Stories to Write:
Hmm. Any of the comment fic. Also, The Asgard's Search was one of the easier things I wrote this year. I think perhaps I'd been reading a lot of romance novels around that time.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Less. A lot less. I blame the lack of time for editing. Also the million first drafts of And Then I Dreamt of Yes. And moving. And NaNo.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I traveled into babyfic with Jericho, wrote a fic starring only original characters in Five People (or Beings) Who Inhabit the SGC, and delved into serious angst with Echoes. I think I learned that adventure pays off.

Do you have any goals for the New Year?
Write more fic and finish several WIPs. Write more Star Wars and Iron Man! And also a lot more Sam/Vala. Have FUN.

I do apologize; although I have several WIPs, I really can't post anything from them just yet. It's a surefire way to kill them ded.
