I made enchilada chili yesterday, and a truly delicious pot of lentil soup today, and I have a German apple cake currently baking in my oven.
I hadn’t made the lentil soup or the apple cake before. The lentil soup, like all soups I have tried up to this point, was totally easy. Soup is the easy-breezy method of cooking: throw it in a pot. Cook until delicious.
I love soup.
Cake is also not terribly hard, as long as you are like me and have decorating WAY down your priority list. Even so, there’s a layer of trepidation with cake. Will it rise? Did I remember the salt? (You can add salt to soup once it’s done, but not to cake.)
I checked on the cake a couple of minutes ago, and it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. It rose, so I remembered the baking powder, and it was just starting to smell delicious, just beginning to brown a little around the edges.
In a little while, it will be ready to eat.
