Hook doesn’t want to get rid of the scissors? Fine.

He should TELL EMMA that. Come up with another solution–say “Yeah, I think you should keep your options open but I agree that keeping these things where just anyone can find them is a mistake. Why don’t we hide them somewhere?”

Granted, all of the characters on this show make mistakes on a regular basis. Snow and Charming, our main True Love Couple, are currently in another bout of secret-keeping from each other.

So… what’s the difference?

I don’t feel like Hook and Emma have enough healthy moments to balance out the moments like this one.

Snow and Charming regularly admit their faults to each other. They come clean. They figure out how to move forward together.

Emma violated Hook’s autonomy when she made him the Dark One against his express wishes.

Hook violated Emma’s autonomy when he kept the scissors of fate against hers.

And I would probably think Hook keeping the scissors was a really good point of drama if Emma had ever called him on some of the other stuff he’d done in the past–when he was the Dark One, sure, but I could see how she feels responsible for that–but she never called him on helping Gold before Gold actually had his heart, among other things.

The thing I loved about Emma was that she was always willing to challenge people, to push back, to stand up for the people she loves. And yet, with Hook, I don’t see that fierce defender. Instead, every time she interacts with Hook, I see someone bending, tilting, losing her balance.

I really hope they’re not going to play Hook keeping the scissors against Emma’s will AND against what he told her he’d do and HAD DONE as a good thing because he was “just keeping her options open” or because he “knew someday she’d want them.”

Emma told him to get rid of them because she knew they could be used as a weapon against her. She didn’t tell him to get rid of them because she wants to die. She is planning to fight and trust in her family. She knew what she was doing and what she was asking.

And she’d just stressed that they needed to stop lying to each other and has started to act on that herself.

(in response to someone saying the have healthy moments to balance them out)

I think I was more pointing to the lack of the air-clearing moments between them–when David lied to Snow about being hurt, they talked that through. When they disagreed about Arthur, they didn’t show the whole conversation on screen, but they mentioned how they’d talked it through and come up with a solution to find out the truth. When Hook said “I did bad things,” Emma said, “You weren’t yourself” and it was never brought up again. When Hook believed his brother over Emma, we didn’t get to see him acknowledge his bias and ask for Emma’s forgiveness. When Emma made Hook the Dark One, they didn’t really talk about that, either–the closest they got was Hook saying he wanted to die a hero.

I would like CS a lot better if they mentioned them talking about this kind of stuff together.
