holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (oops)
So instead of being pathetic and running out and buying Ark of Truth (since it hasn't arrived yet in my mailbox), I decided to be pathetic and watch the last few episodes of SG-1 instead.

This isn't long, but since it's season 10...

Talion: I have to confess that I didn't watch this very carefully the first time through. This time, I was like, "Wait...there's a plot here! And *that's* where the bomb ships crop up!" (No one ever said I was *good* at watching episodes). Also: Teal'c is kick-ass. That's really all I have to say. I mean, I LOVED it this time through, but mostly I have to say that Teal'c is kick-ass.

Family Ties: I'm still in love with the first and last scenes of this. I'm also still bitter about Vala's backstory.

Dominion: Morena Baccarin can't act! Or at least, I don't like some of her artistic choices for Adria. I think the explanation part of the episode is amazingly funny. Of course...it's Claudia Black. Someday I'm going to write that woman a very embarrassing letter. Also, can I just say how amazingly glad I am that the writers decided to remember that Ba'al is a Goa'uld and not a businessman? I also like that moment at the end, when Adria's ascending. It's a great oh, crap moment. And there's SO MUCH going on in Vala's head right then.

Unending: Okay, killing the Asgard? Still sucks. A lot. *stomps her 10W feet in anger* However, I LOVE the moment where the Ori beam is racing toward the ship and then just...stops, and on the bridge they just look absolutely sunned. I love that there are still things so awesome they have problems comprehending them. And The Scene between Daniel and Vala still makes me really thinky about both their characters. Okay. This episode is tugging at my heartstrings. Teal'c angst! Sam angst! Sam being a genius! *sighs* I think I'm weird for liking this episode so much. The end of the episode is joy. An angsty, bittersweet joy. But joy nonetheless. *sobs* Oh, TEAM.

Oh, man. Vala's daddy and backstory. RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks.

I also hate the actor who played him, so the suckage was pretty complete for me.

Agreed. Suckitude magnified by ten. It's one area where I completely ignore canon.

And The Scene between Daniel and Vala still makes me really thinky about both their characters.

Doesn't it though? Now for me, it was like a *lot* of pieces falling into place, but then I've been a Daniel fangirl forever and could sort of see the progression.

But yeah, awesome scene.

Yeah. The progression of it just...gah! It's so logical and hurty and...yeah.

I think I'm weird for liking this episode so much.

I'll be weird right along with you, and I liked it for most of the same reasons--there is, as I just said to Abyssis, something so poignant about that episode for me. No, it's not perfect, and killing the Asgard was a low blow, and I sort of wipe That Scene from memory, but Teal'c!!! Sam!!!! And then the end makes me all wibbly.

The end makes me extremely wibbly. There is a lot of poignancy I missed the first time through. I'm glad I'm not the only weird one.

I must add that I don't get the movie until tomorrow.

I am writing smut instead.

*runs off to check UPS.com again*

Seriously. YES.

And, oh, Talion. Teal'c *was* awesome. But my brain froze in that moment where Landry says, "Hey! The IOA's ordering me to order you to stop Teal'c, even if you have to kill him. So I am!" Argh. The team-breaking angst, it is the only kind I do not like. Maybe it won't bother me so much whenever I finally re-watch it, though.

No movie here yet, either. =( Probably no time to watch till Friday night even if it does show up. Sad for me!

Yeah. Friday's looking like my best bet, too. *sighs*

Landry is no Hammond. Not even a bit of circumvention in his bones. (Although he does seem to be more flexible in the initial situations).

I'm very glad you are not of the "Unending made me hate Daniel FOREVAR" persuasion. I thought that was an emotionally-realistic completion to Daniel's traumatic romantic history and the D/V flirt/flee dynamic.

It was a lot more realistic than Stargate normally is. And--well, they're trapped on a itty bitty ship. It's not surprising that there's emotional blow-ups--and we know that Daniel can have quite the temper.

(I also think that he just didn't ever take Vala seriously, because she never seemed to take *herself* seriously).

I also think that scene was dead on accurate emotionally. I don't think he would have gone quite so far, though, if not for the fact that Vala had been tormenting him for three months when he got to that point. The thing with the handcuffs, and probably hundreds of things we didn't see, really amplified his suspicion that she was only teasing him for sport. And of course he wouldn't have exploded if he didn't truly care for her, and hadn't already thought about the reasons they wouldn't work, and then had them shown to him in the form of said teasing.

In short, this moment will be a lot less explosive when it comes in the new timeline.

Talion is awesome, and Teal'c kicks so many kinds of ass! Seriously, at least half of the fic ideas I have sitting on my hard drive revolve around that episode. I have much, much love for that episode.

Family Ties...I just put that whole storyline in with the "Cameron Mitchell is from Kansas, my ass" category of plot ideas I am going to blatantly ignore because tptb were clearly on crack when they came up with them. But the first and last scenes were great.

I am so glad I'm not the only who was not overly impressed with Morena Baccarin's performance as Adria in Dominion (and some of the other eps, to be honest.) I liked her much better on Firefly. On the other hand, I was so glad they killed off all the Ba'al clones. I hated that storyline.

I think I'm weird for liking this episode so much.

Yay! Someone else to be weird with. Because I loved Unending. Don't get me wrong - killing off the Asgard was all sorts of stupid, and the old makeup was kind of horrible, and it really needed to be more than an hour long. But I still love it, because it had smooshy Sam/Thor moments and angsty Daniel/Vala (that was the first time I actually bought that pairing) and I actually liked Landry. And Teal'c! And Sam! And Teal'c and Sam! And the angsty, sweet ending that makes me tear up every time I watch it.

Love.

I forgot about that one! Argh. But yeah. In my head, his family moved and/or that particular storyline just didn't happen.

And Teal'c! And Sam! And Teal'c and Sam! And the angsty, sweet ending that makes me tear up every time I watch it.

I think Unending, as silly as this is going to sound, is the first episode in which I truly LOVED Teal'c (I know--I waited until the VERY LAST EPISODE to make up my mind. Sheesh.) And since watching bits of season 9 and 10 again, I have a completely different understanding of his character. It's pretty awesome.

In my head, his family moved

That's usually what I go with, too. Because there is just no way that accent came from Kansas.

the first episode in which I truly LOVED Teal'c

I think anyone who doesn't love Teal'c after that episode is just never going to love him (and I feel sad for them). Because he has to carry the memories of fifty years inside all by himself and he does it so stoically but without pushing away the people he loves and he's just so wise and strong and loving and...awesome.
