holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (Default)
I have regular meals with my family each week, during which they usually try to convince me to play a bored board game, and although I usually decline, I do enjoy the occassional game...as long as it's not Risk. And recently, I've been thinking that Scrabble is pretty awesome, so when it was suggested we play, I said yes.

Although I didn't win (due to an Incident involving Dad, seven letters, and being out of tiles!), I played the absolutely most awesome game for me ever! I got...171 points! I used the 'q' on a triple word score! I had ALL FOUR 's's. I completely rocked the game.

I have never even been CLOSE to winning against my dad before. He is generally awesome, and my mom isn't half bad, either.

Also, I just watched the last four episodes of Bones. When did this show become completely awesome? I stopped watching in the first season because I felt the writing was uneven, and I'd *just* come back to sanity after beating my head in with a rock watching Crossing Jordan two too many seasons. I really wasn't in the mood to deal with more uneven writing. But...well, the end, I'm not completely sure about. And very sad about. Zach always seemed to me like such a wonderful character, although I think that he honestly makes sense to go off the deep end a little. This character analysis based on six episodes and change.

And another favorite of mine is So You Think You Can Dance. I think I've fallen for this show hard, and it's totally KR's fault.

Okay. I know very little about proper dancing. I tend to soak in KR's opinions on the performances and say "Oooooh! That was really nifty!" a lot. I know stupendous stuff, and I know crappy stuff, but ranking the middle stuff is beyond me. However! I really, really enjoy the dancing, and the drama, and I'm thinking that shipping isn't beyond me, oddly enough. *edges away from SYTYCD RPF*

I LOVED some of the performances last night. The sexy Italian dude was hot, Italian, arrogant as hell, and hilarious to watch. He was also not that good. I was entertained, but I wouldn't have been if he'd made it. Kherington Payne, a blond soccer player, was so enthusiastic that I honestly didn't care whether she's merely good or great. I want to watch her more. Laura Garcia (I'm looking these names up online, don't worry about me too much), auditions--she's visually impaired, and the judges' reactions just broke. my. heart. She has a lot of guts, and I hope she does GREAT in whatever she decides to do. And then, of course, there was Robert Muraine, a "popper and street performer" who just...ack! He's a PERFORMER. Can't stop watching him--I was laughing and cheering his entire audition. Even if he bombs the Vegas part, I feel like this was one performance that I was lucky to see.

Er...I'll let you all get back to your regularly scheduled fandoms now.

*cries*

Welcome to the perverse, bizarre, and very educational world of SYTYCD. And don't worry ... I shall be your guide through the gates of hell. :-) I CAN tell you what is mediocre and what is better than mediocre.

That's what they teach us in 15+ years of training, after all. :)

Your Scrabble prowess, I am very impressed by it!

And oh, Bones. I watch it completely for fun - for me it's the Geeks Save the Day, Seely is Hot, and Booth and Bones are OMG SO CUTE show. I share your sadness about Zack - a bit out of nowhere *and* doesn't exactly fit the prior nature of the show for me. Gutsy, but still kind of ... huh?

I love Geeks Save the Day shows!

And thank you. Scrabble is so much fun...when it's not completely frustrating. *g*

See, I need to read what you respond BEFORE I comment, what way I can post ORIGINAL thoughts, instead of thoughts I thought were original....

Bones started getting really good in S2, which is still to date the strongest season. Go rent it/buy it/obtain it and WATCH it because OMG.

Bones makes me happy! Except for the season 4 finale...but all and all. I love a show where the smart geeky people save the day; hense my love for Sam. Plus David Boreanaz is SO HAWT!

But ZACH?! *sobs*

I love smart, geeky people winning out over the brute strength people. :-)

I missed big parts of SYTYCD last night (due to sleepiness, mostly), but I'm excited that it's back. The judges generally try to behave like human beings and the dancing is always fun and interesting to watch.

I am bringing at least one of travel scrabble boards with me to Dragon Con and I shall teach you how to kick ass at it.

The keys? Memorizing all the 2 and 3 word letters.

Oh, yes. This is why my dad regularly beats everyone, although, obviously, I'm catching up! Hee.

FYI - QI is now a word. As is XI.

Use them well.

Hmmm...I wonder if I can get my paper-bound parents on board with this one?

I don't watch Bones, but I have a fantasy that I'll run into David Boreanaz in the lobby of the firm I work for one day, since his cousin is a lawyer there :)
