Do you ever pick up champagne (technically sparkling wine in this case) just for the heck of it? No? Well, I do. I mean, I like occassional glasses of wine, or weird random mixed drinks me and my roommate come up with, but this week I felt, inexplicably, like champagne. I love the light, sweet, crispness and fizz of it.

It was a great help in getting past my inner editor last night, and I wrote almost 1,000 more words of the "It's supposed to be about Teal'c and Vala meditating" story that's turned into, "Everyone pranks each other and it's a lot of lame, junior-high fun" story. *sighs* Sadly, it was already turning into that before last night, so I can't blame the champagne for everything.

I have and have had and will have thoughts on the election, but basically it boils down to "Hello, lj drama. I missed you. Pull up a chair and tell me what you've been up to, and then I'll get righteously indignant for about a week and look back on this conversation in two weeks and be glad that I didn't say too much. Also, people can be jerks."

For example, I was a jerk yesterday when I was driving, which is generally a bad time to be a jerk, seeing as you're moving a large, heavy object at high speeds. At the time, I believed the person in the other car was being the jerk, but I have to say, upon further reflection, that I made several mistakes that led to their jerkiness. (Thankfully, no one even got close to hitting anyone else, and the ruffled feelings from the matter had plenty of time to be smoothed over before the next turn signal.) So, nameless angry woman driving near me yesterday, here is my apology to you: I'm quite sorry, and I'll try to do better next time.

Is anyone else on my flist watching American Gladiators? I LOVE THIS SHOW. Why? Because it is an athletic contest, cheesy, over-the-top, harsh, demanding, loud, obnoxious, and fun. I totally want to be a contestant. You know, if I were more athletic and could actually climb 30-foot cargo nets and not feel completely out of my league just looking at the gladiators.

Part of the reason I like the show may be because I suspect that a large portion of the gladiators are actually lovely, warm, friendly people who backstage call each other by their real names and smile at the contestants and generally think that the whole show is awesome because they get to do silly things for money on tv and have lots and lots of fun. Yes? OMG. I totally have crushes on these people, in the way that doesn't make me want to...fic...oh, crap. You could write fic about them! Nonononono. I will not. I'm already not ficcing SYTYCD. I don't need another not-fic fandom.

Oh you are in so much trouble. AMERICAN GLADIATORS?

Hon-ey!

I should be surprised by this ... but I'm not.

Le sigh.

Wait, how did you miss this? I've been watching since it returned.

Besides. I'm joking about the ficcing thing. Really.

have you ever tried prosecco? the italian version of champagne? i much prefer it to champagne myself, and if you like peach, you can throw some peach juice and a teeeny splish of grenadine and have yourself a beautiful bellini.

you know what? you make me almost want to watch american gladiator...almost.

Mmm! I love all the different varieties of wines--well, I love that there ARE so many different varieties. I'm not as fond of drinking some of them as I am of others. ;-)

you know what? you make me almost want to watch american gladiator...almost.

I'll take almost. There's a great deal of childish glee I carry to the whole thing, so I've got nostalgia on my side.

I tend to keep a bottle of Champagne in the fridge, just in case. :) I don't drink it very often, but it's just nice to have the option.

And, yay for lame junior-high fun with Teal'c and Vala! :D

Yes! Exactly. I knew I liked you for a reason. You should come visit sometime. Like in August/September. And we can, oh, I dunno, go to a con or something.

I thought about making a mimosa last night, but the sparling wine was just so darn good on its own!

American Gladiators is awesome. I watch when I remember which is rarely, but still. Awesome.

I'll bet most of the Gladiators are really cool people who love their jobs too. And the contestants are very often neat people with interesting stories to tell. I sort of crushed on Evan in season 1. Heh.

Try a bottle of Prosecco sometime! I recently tried Lunetta and that was pretty good. First time I had it was in Italy, on a train, out of a plastic cup. Awesome times, my friend.

I can't comment on anything else, my brain is fizzing like a shaken bottle of pepsi.

oh, I didn't see this before commenting. D'oh!

Prosecco is indeed good. I like some champagnes but they are really hit or miss for me - I'd prefer most prosecco over even Moet & Chandon. Definitely over Asti :p

Evan! I love him. I love it when the contestants have interesting stories, and I think this season is so far leagues above last season in some respects--one being that they try to insert the human interest stuff a little more smoothly, in some ways.

Alas, I can no longer drink alcohol because of my medication, but when I could? Champagne was definitely one of my faves.

I do watch American Gladiators! When I remember it's on. And it is so much fun. I was worried it would just be a pale shadow of the original, which my brother and I watched religiously when we were younger, but it is just as good.

Also? What you said about the lj drama? WORD.

Yay! I knew there had to be other fans out there. :-) My brother and I used to LOVE it--I especially remember the gauntlet.

I'm sorry about your medication interfering with the awesome that is champagne. Although I don't actually drink that often, I like the occassional glass of wine, and would miss it.

The Gauntlet! *loves*

I was disappointed that they aren't letting stunt people be contestants, because after seeing him at the convention, I would have loved to have seen James Bamford fighting Gladiators.

I can actually have a drink or two if I go without my meds for a day or two. Unfortunately, that requires planning and forethought - two of my least favorite things - so I only do it for things like New Year's and the occasional wedding. (And possibly Dragon*Con).

Yes, I buy champagne all the time. : ) I love the little one-person-sized bottles with the little straw attached. They always have a display of those up by the checkout at Fresh Market and more often than not I grab one on the way to the line. Damn devious merchandisers.

When I was a kid I always assumed champagne would taste like Sprite and sometimes I'm still mildly disappointed that it doesn't.

Date: 2008-05-28 08:20 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] vickyocean.livejournal.com
Dude, I'm in. ; )I even have a stockpile of those little plastic multi-piece champagne glasses.

I'm totally serious about this party, too. We can have each person bring a bottle. Wild? Yes. But OMG we're all awesome people. We DESERVE champagne. Right?

Date: 2008-05-28 08:31 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] vickyocean.livejournal.com
Well, I generally don't have anyone around to drink a whole big bottle with when I'm in the mood and champagne doesn't really save well (at least not that I've figured out). Wine products also give me a worse hangover than any other type of liquor, so me + a whole bottle in one night = not a good thing.

Plus, they're only a couple of bucks a piece so it's an easy impulse buy.

In fact now that you're talking about it, I may have one before dinner with my parents tonight. My mother is worse than a puritan.
