Do you ever pick up champagne (technically sparkling wine in this case) just for the heck of it? No? Well, I do. I mean, I like occassional glasses of wine, or weird random mixed drinks me and my roommate come up with, but this week I felt, inexplicably, like champagne. I love the light, sweet, crispness and fizz of it.
It was a great help in getting past my inner editor last night, and I wrote almost 1,000 more words of the "It's supposed to be about Teal'c and Vala meditating" story that's turned into, "Everyone pranks each other and it's a lot of lame, junior-high fun" story. *sighs* Sadly, it was already turning into that before last night, so I can't blame the champagne for everything.
I have and have had and will have thoughts on the election, but basically it boils down to "Hello, lj drama. I missed you. Pull up a chair and tell me what you've been up to, and then I'll get righteously indignant for about a week and look back on this conversation in two weeks and be glad that I didn't say too much. Also, people can be jerks."
For example, I was a jerk yesterday when I was driving, which is generally a bad time to be a jerk, seeing as you're moving a large, heavy object at high speeds. At the time, I believed the person in the other car was being the jerk, but I have to say, upon further reflection, that I made several mistakes that led to their jerkiness. (Thankfully, no one even got close to hitting anyone else, and the ruffled feelings from the matter had plenty of time to be smoothed over before the next turn signal.) So, nameless angry woman driving near me yesterday, here is my apology to you: I'm quite sorry, and I'll try to do better next time.
Is anyone else on my flist watching American Gladiators? I LOVE THIS SHOW. Why? Because it is an athletic contest, cheesy, over-the-top, harsh, demanding, loud, obnoxious, and fun. I totally want to be a contestant. You know, if I were more athletic and could actually climb 30-foot cargo nets and not feel completely out of my league just looking at the gladiators.
Part of the reason I like the show may be because I suspect that a large portion of the gladiators are actually lovely, warm, friendly people who backstage call each other by their real names and smile at the contestants and generally think that the whole show is awesome because they get to do silly things for money on tv and have lots and lots of fun. Yes? OMG. I totally have crushes on these people, in the way that doesn't make me want to...fic...oh, crap. You could write fic about them! Nonononono. I will not. I'm already not ficcing SYTYCD. I don't need another not-fic fandom.

I'll take almost. There's a great deal of childish glee I carry to the whole thing, so I've got nostalgia on my side.

Date: 2008-05-28 07:05 pm (UTC)From:I'll bet most of the Gladiators are really cool people who love their jobs too. And the contestants are very often neat people with interesting stories to tell. I sort of crushed on Evan in season 1. Heh.

Also? What you said about the lj drama? WORD.

Date: 2008-05-28 08:05 pm (UTC)From:I'm sorry about your medication interfering with the awesome that is champagne. Although I don't actually drink that often, I like the occassional glass of wine, and would miss it.

Date: 2008-05-28 08:12 pm (UTC)From:I was disappointed that they aren't letting stunt people be contestants, because after seeing him at the convention, I would have loved to have seen James Bamford fighting Gladiators.
I can actually have a drink or two if I go without my meds for a day or two. Unfortunately, that requires planning and forethought - two of my least favorite things - so I only do it for things like New Year's and the occasional wedding. (And possibly Dragon*Con).

In fact now that you're talking about it, I may have one before dinner with my parents tonight. My mother is worse than a puritan.
