holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (parker)

Okay. I decided to do this because a) it’s a good way to have a catalogue of all fic and b) because I wanted to take a look at the fic I’ve written after I posted it (which I don’t normally do) and c) because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Oh, and I’m skipping all the drabbles. Except for the ones I like. And the series. And…I may or may not be including things from before last year, because I don’t have access to my dates at the moment, and because I haven’t done this before. There's a little by of interesting stuff on some of the entries, especially under "Star Wars" and "Stargate."

By Fandom, each in rough chronological order:

Starting with The Pretender:

Seasonal Round
Okay, re-reading this, I hate it. But…it was my first experiment in Pretender, save for a couple of stand-alone drabbles, for a very long time. And the seasonal aspect of it carried over to “Year One,” so it’s kinda interesting.

The Dead Don’t Complain
Back when The Pretender was My. Life., everyone was writing End-of-the-Centre fics, and I always had this great scene in my head with Miss Parker, who would have FINALLY put it together, quietly stealing into a dingy hotel room and finding a dingy, depressed Jarod. This is the cop-out version of that fic, but it was cathartic.

Hell in a Box
Miss Parker, stuck in an elevator with two giggly girls. I wanted to write Pretender!fluff, so here it is. So basically I butchered Miss Parker’s character. Again. But it’s fun, and hopefully funny.

 Okay, onto Farscape:

Broken Remnants
It’s poetry. *Cringe.* I don’t really want to say anything else.

Role Reversal
It’s dangerous to write fanfic for a finished series before having finished it. A twin-death thing. Despite it’s brevity, it’s lack of coherence, there’s something in John’s reflection of Aeryn I kinda like.

If
Possibly my fanfic masterpiece, and it’s a drabble. It’s John musing about Star Wars. If you know Farscape at all, you should read this. [/shameless self pimp]

A New Word
See “Role Reversal.” Maybe this falls under “character meta,” or something.

To Search the Sky
Uhhh…demented fic? I haven’t written anything Farscape since we watched the PK Wars, and I’m wondering if it’s because the actual story is so compelling and rich. And, you know, ends. Hmmm…

Star Wars:

Unvoiced
Dark!Leia. A foray into madness, and I think an idea I saw somewhere else first. I think you can see me start to learn how characters move in a scene.

The Proper Setting
I think I wrote this one first, and it was part of my return to fanfic. I tried to make the action there, but am not sure I succeeded.

Practice
Leia lies to Luke, and I can’t help but wonder if it might not be realistic to think Leia already knew about Padme. I like the idea of Leia protecting her younger brother. (Because he is younger…Lucas got it wrong).

What Would You Miss?
It’s obvious to me that this is the point at which the Fluffy Love Tribbles of Doom ate my angst. Or were starting to nibble, anyway. And I learned a valuable lesson: just because I’m weird and like to crawl into cupboard (when I still can), does not mean this resonates with my readers.

Many Bothans
I have no excuse for this fic, except that Limelight wrote the pairing first. I hate this fic anyway—it was funnier in my head.

Days of Our Rebellion
This seemed like a good idea at the time.

What My Senses Tell Me
Oh, finally! Angst again. I actually enjoy this one, I think because I took some time on it, and really focused on the individual senses. I think I would make “smell” more concrete, but even so, I think there’s a real impact at the end.

Deceptive Black Eyes
Fluff inspired by KnightedRogue’s Espionage series, in which Leia and Han become operatives for the NRI post-Jedi. My fic was, oddly enough, inspired by “Desperate Housewives,” but very loosely. And I created not one, but four OC’s, who I think turned out reasonably well.

Vacation
I did a really good job at creating a lack of plot. Plus, it’s sunshiny and cute. The tribbles had completed their job by this point.

Too Much Rain
A challenge fic that turned out surprisingly well. I tried to make it have a plot, but it didn’t want to.

Half a Conversation
I was challenged to write in two quotes from one of my lit professors. If nothing else, the fact that I managed to have characters say “Come with me, baby, and I won’t make you plow,” and “And I know what an agnostic is; it’s a person who can use both hands,” in a Star Wars fic should garner me some applause. Plus, I really like the characterization in this fic…and I managed to write both droids in.

Worlds Under Sky
My first multi-chapter fic, and it shows. It’s romantic drivel with little to no plot. Ugh. Next time I write something long, I’m going to have a plot. I swear. And better characterization.

Deceptive Kisses
The sequel to “Deceptive Black Eyes,” and it’s even fluffier.

Lost: My obsession with Lost fic lasted all of about two minutes, and some really strange stuff came out of that, including putting strange authors on my alerts list.

Color Wheel
I got the idea for connected drabble series from this fic. It’s sappy and manipulative and unoriginal…but the idea is there.

Not Quite a Tango
Uh. A lesbian!kiss. Sort of. And humor, which is weird for Lost. Plus, there was snark, and singing. It’s kinda hard to explain, but the idea came to me in a dream, and therefore, had to be written.

And finally…

Stargate: SG-1

Wow
I’m pretty sure you can see Jojo’s influence all over this fic. It’s lighthearted, with just a small dash of regs, and I’ve gotten more positive response from this fic than anything else I’ve ever posted. I’m really terribly fond of it. KnightedRogue, who serves as my sounding board, thinks it’s possibly my best fic ever, save for “If.” We debated that for a while, and came to no conclusions.

Law of Averages
Dialogue!fic. No one else really seems to like it, but I think it’s one of those conversations that could easily be dropped into the show. You know, if I wrote better. Hopefully the clichés in this one weren’t too awful.

Breaking the Rules
A Moebius fic nobody else seems to like, although I like this one less now that I’ve seen and read more. I wish I hadn’t posted it and had instead 1) deleted it or 2) revised it and done more with it. Or made it Geeky!Sam/Daniel. ;-)

Year One
I wrote the majority of this fic before I read almost any apocafic, and I’m glad, because I think it turned out better for it. I set it really late (season 10 or even later), which limited and expanded my options a bit. Plus, I narrowed down the focus of the story in several ways which might be frustrating to the person who wants the gigantic story, but was really good for me in my current skill as a writer. I like the tone, too.

Year Two
Not as pretty or self-contained as “Year One,” and definitely more difficult to write. I felt that time was pressing more heavily in this fic; Jack and Sam couldn’t just hang around on Earth forever, and I wanted to show that awareness. I have two “missing scenes” that were originally intended for the different seasons that I’m planning on posting, and I’d like to do a “Year Three,” if I could figure how the hell that would work, what with having to include plot. Or something.

Temporary Deadness
Because I wanted to write zombie!fic. Sue me. Though if I end up writing the sequel plz!fic, it’s going to be crack. And sad.
