Politics, post 2016 election
Nov. 22nd, 2016 07:42 pmSomeone I know asked me today how I was doing since the election. (His reaction the day after the election was to “wait and see” and “things will settle back to normal soon.”) Today, I said,as calmly as I could, that I was very unnerved by some of the appointments and policies I’d seen from Trump so far and was not happy that the racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic statements heard during the campaign did not seem to be left behind or corrected. I said that the increase in xenophobic, racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic, and homophobic attacks was very concerning.
We then had a rather wide-ranging discussion about many things, but I keep thinking that this person, who I like a lot and know does not agree with those attacks or statements, is part of the majority, is part of the group that is currently normalizing hate, and that does not sit well with me.
I hope he keeps listening to me and people like me instead of just shoving it all down.
