This is addressed to the writers, specifically A&E. It’s something that’s been bothering me since I first watched the episode.
I loved this episode. You gave me a fun, broken Wish!AU with Regina practically waltzing up to dwarfs to high-five them and making snarky comments about Oh-So-Heroic Snow and Charming and let me see that Emma wants to be herself. You let Regina show how far she’s come from tolerating Emma to actively liking her–and at the same time let Regina see how far she’s come and how she can’t really go back to being the Evil Queen.
But…
BUT…
Don’t think I didn’t catch this lovely little exchange:
Don’t think I missed the implication here–this wasn’t the Evil Queen starting a seduction. At best, she was making a coarse joke about seduction, but really, given the power differentials here, she was talking rape.
This was not a funny little joke. Once again, you show that you have no understanding that rape isn’t funny. Coercing someone into sex because you’re their master or because you’d hurt the people they love if they say no isn’t hilarious–it’s awful, and you played it for laughs.
Again.
Please stop.
