holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (Default)
I'm one of those crazy people who likes to clean before they go on vacation. So last night I did a load of laundry, vacuumed the whole apartment, (and it really does help to have the setting on 'floor' instead of 'hose'), and got out my suitcase so I can start tossing things in its general direction. This morning I started the dishwasher, and I plan on doing my sheets tomorrow night.

I've also realized (again) that it is impossible to only take a small purse and my computer bag on the plane with me, as I insist on taking entirely too many books to read (the only reason I'd really need the Kindle). So the big bag is getting to come after all, because it will have room for at least my journal and the Quaker materials I need to read over before my membership meeting early next month.

I must remember to: 1) look at my list, 2) pack pyjamas, 2) charge my iPod, 3) pack my glasses. I should probably also look at putting more of the university tracks on my iPod. And I should probably bring my charger, too.

The other essential pre-con routine is getting enough sleep each night so that AT the con, I can deprive myself of rest happily, or near enough to.

Okay: Before writing this, I wasn't nervous. NOW I AM.

OMG CON FLAIL. Thank god I've at least met you and Tammy in person. It will help me be a little less OMG WHAT IF THEY ALL HATE ME! this year. :)

Awww...no one will hate you. People are mostly pretty nice, you know. *g*

Logically I know that, but my brain's not always down with the logical conclusion. :)

Last year I had severe anxiety until my brain suddenly snapped to its "rational" setting. Like...right before I boarded the plane. And then it started up again when I was in the hotel.

I feel better this year, though. Maybe because hey, it worked out once, right?

Lol. Just remember: I made you a shirt!

I'm with you about the cleaning thing. But mostly it's due to the fact that my parents will be over while I'm gone to feed the cat. If my place isn't pristine, I'll hear about it endlessly when I get back or my mother would have taken it upon herself to 'clean' and completely rearrange my cabinets or something.

I completely forgot to pack pajamas one year and had to borrow one of my roommates t-shirts. It's amazing what you can forget. I've had my suit case out for like week and I've been putting stuff in there whenever it crosses my mind. I always massively over pack anyway.

I wear extremely random things to bed, and I keep having to remind myself that I need something that will more or less cover me. *grins*

Argh! Mothers are so frustrating--they think they know how you want things arranged, and they don't even think about the fact that they're invading your space.

I have a bit of a thing for pajamas and always seem to buy them when they're on sale really cheap, whether I need them or not. So I have tons.

I have yet to live down that year of forgetting my pajamas. I was rooming with 2 of my best guy friends. They still tease me endlessly about 'forgetting' my PJs. But they were nice enough to go to the dealer room the next day and buy a huge T-shirt (seriously it cam past my knees) that said "Han shot first" for me to sleep for the rest of the con.

I'm with you, I have to clean before I leave for vacation. I hate coming home to a dirty house. I have to come home to clean sheets and at least one meal in the fridge/freezer.

I'm even giving the dog a bath because I don't want to come home and have to do "oh my god, you left me, love me, cuddle me, never leave me again!" with a dirty beast. :)

I'm in the Hilton again. (stupid con hotels, selling out like hotcakes--although, really, the Hilton's pretty nice, all things considered).

I'm coming Thursday, and I'll absolutely text you. You have my number, yes?

Date: 2008-08-26 11:21 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] majorsamfan.livejournal.com
Is the one ending in 49 your home or cell? (I plugged it into the "home" field in my address book, but I think it's your cell?)

It's my cell # (my only number, actually), and I did manage to get the con rate at the hilton. It's really not a huge issue to walk one hotel over. I just really like the way the Marriott looks.

Date: 2008-08-27 12:12 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] majorsamfan.livejournal.com
I'm a little concerned about the beds. Both Hilton & Marriott look like they're "doubles" vs. Queens, and we didn't have much room with two obese people in a double in Vangroovey...

I first booked at a cheap hotel less than 1/2 mile away and it labeled the beds "full", and I thought double would be bigger. Turns out they're the same size. At least this is only four nights. I was in Vancouver for six nights.

I am looking forward to (possibly) having my own bed this year, it's true.

Oh, and I have a res. at the Hilton (neither at con rate unfortunately) but am cancelling that since SG track will mostly be in Marriott and Marriott is cheaper by $30/day.

Also, I'm gonna screen that comment so people can't grab your cell no.

*wanders in late*

I hope you're getting all your chores done - I hate coming back to a messy house, too, though it happens more often than I'd like. Anyway, have fun at the con!!

Hey! I was just wondering where you'd been to lately. How's life? If you're posting, feel free to ignore this question. :-)

I am getting the chores done, although my roommates seem to think that they don't have to do silly things like empty the dishwasher or sweep the floors while I'm gone.

*rolls her eyes*

Hee. I did post!

I hadn't considered the roommate problem. Difficult when you have independent agents that insist on messing things up while you're not around. *g*
