holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (Fish)
I lost a song.

I was in a coffee shop--it's my new favorite place ever, because it has a great cozy-yet-slightly-industrial feel, and it's small, and has wonderful cinnamon rolls, and isn't the old coffee shop of which I will not speak. Mind you, no coffee-drinking actually takes place while I'm there, at least not at my table.

Anyway, I was at the coffee shop, and this Song came on. It was so beautiful my friend and I actually stopped talking to listen to the whole thing, and while I meant to write down a portion of the lyrics, various circumstances conspired against me and I can't remember enough to find it.

I seriously considered being the nutty customer who goes up to the counter and asks, "So, there was this song, in a minor key, sung by a woman, really soft and melodic, and it was a couple of weeks ago that I heard it… do you know it?" But I didn't.

*sighs*

I will have more Stargate rewatch soon, but 'Politics' severely slowed me down. Clips shows are remarkably boring when you're watching faster than once a week.

Meanwhile, here are some awesome internet things:

I laughed… because it's true(ish).

The Periodic Table of Storytelling.

Beautiful, sad Fringe Vid.

Ah, it drives me crazy when I do that - lose a song, that is. I try to memorise just one line that'll be googleable - but it's not always possible. Which reminds me, I found two of the songs that were played at AT5, on those vids they played, if you want them? To ease the pain? :)

There's only one scene in Politics that I can ever be bothered to rewatch - but it is a very lovely scene. "It's theoretically possible." "It's against regulations!" "I'm talking physics, sir."

Hmmm, maybe you could trick Pandora into finding it for you? Make an account, and like and dislike songs according to similarities with the forgotten song, and maybe eventually it'll pop up? Kind of a work-intensive longshot, I realize, but that's what I'd do.

Ahahahahaha, that's very much how I react when I'm reading and people bug me. Except without the unabomber hoodie. :)

Hee! It's totally awesome, isn't it? I kinda like the part where he steals books at a kid's bday party, too. :-)

Does the coffee shop play CDs? Because if they do, then someone on staff might have the song. And if they've got a Sirius subscription (or any other radio), if you sit there long enough, you will hear the song again, particularly if you go at the same time of day.

I don't know if it's CDs or radio--I don't think it's radio, since there are no ads, but there's a good variety of artists/etc--but I've been a couple of other times and haven't heard it. (I'm there for at least 1.5 hours once a week.) I'm hoping I'll get lucky again. I don't know how to ask for said song at the counter... maybe I'll try sounding like an idiot next week. *g*

I can't remember...Do you have a smart phone? If you do, get this app (you can try it for free, upgrade later if you want): SHAZAM

It will identify the song and artist, link you to their concert tour agenda and even to lyrics I believe.

Then this will never happen again!

Sadly, I am still in the dark, smart-phone-less ages. If I had just gotten a lyric or two! AUGH.

SoundHound works really well too. You just push the button and it listens to the song and identifies it for you. I think you need a smartphone to live a happy, normal life ;-)

I love the future.
