First and most importantly, a happy birthday to
pepper_field! I hope it is a fabulous one.
Sanctuary:
Okay, I love and adore Sanctuary--more precisely, I love and adore Helen Magnus, and most of the other main or recurring characters. However! I have noticed that the number of plot holes in Sanctuary episodes surpasses that of many other shows, and it's driving me up the WALL. I don't need Sanctuary to be a brilliant, smart show. It's enough for me when Helen runs around kicking ass or giving the kids time outs, or goes crazy under the influence of a beetle she took on purpose. I mean, I'm not difficult to please, people!
However! I would like to appeal to the writers and say "Please, please, please add another draft to your writing process. You know, one where you go through and take out most of the remaining stupid."
For example, in 'One Night,' the episode could have been improved dramatically if, instead of Will telling Abby to escape using the scorpion, and then her being REMARKABLY stupid in not actually contacting help, he had told her NOT to escape, and they'd used the scorpion later.
I mean, I get Will was trying to help Abby get away, at least, but REALLY!
In 'Pax Romana' there were just things that didn't make sense, albeit subtly, but I felt like the episode really should have been two episodes, or some of the episode (Adam, probably) should have been dropped. It kinda seemed like TPTB thought Adam wasn't interesting enough after all, and yet had to finish up his storyline, so... they kinda got stuck with it. (On the other hand, I have nothing but love for the all-female Action Team.)
'Hangover' wasn't an ep that needed to be smart--in fact, I figured it wouldn't be--but they tried to have it both ways with the ending: the "funny, pull the wool over the eyes of the UN" ending and the "we occasionally screw up but we're still valuable and intelligent" ending. I enjoyed pretty much the whole episode (Although Will needs to understand that sometimes friends shoot friends), but the ending made it just a little sour.
It just makes me want to duct-tape the writers to their chairs and make them read the script out loud.
None of it is making me give up the show, or stop enjoying fun moments like Big Guy swinging upside down in an elevator. *g*
SGU, on the other hand, is making me wish it weren't canceled. These last few eps have been engaging--still darker than SG-1, but with some levity, and I feel like I finally have a good grasp of most of the characters. I haven't even wanted to throw Young OR Rush out an airlock recently! It's a marked improvement. :-)
(SGU, btw, is why I haven't started my Rewatch of SG-1 season two. I had six episodes to catch up on.)
Meme! I haven't done one of these in a while! Snagged from
