Yes, I know I said I wasn't really fannish about this show. Shut up.
1. Do TPTB for this show believe who we are tells what our actions will be or do they think that how we act determines who we are? That is, is Regina right that Snow is doomed, or is she still capable of choosing the right?
2. What does Regina's heart look like? Somebody grab it!
3. Is Henry (and Bae) right about magic? Is it inherently corrupting?
4. Did anyone else know the kid was the Outsider within two minutes of Regina spotting him?
5. How cool is it that Regina gave Henry exactly what he wanted (ending the immediate threat against Mary Margaret) without giving him what he really wanted (getting rid of all magic) or what he really needed (the end of the feud)?
6. What does it say about me that I actually really like this season and this show? (I keep seeing a lot of people who are fed up with Regina and her back-and-forth redemption arc, but I'm not there yet... at least, not most of the time.)

Date: 2013-03-19 01:15 am (UTC)From:I liked the idea of this episode and would like to see more "early Storybrooke" if there's a good reason for it. The downside was that Henry remains, for me, annoying and terrible, so having that much of him was rough.

Date: 2013-03-19 01:17 pm (UTC)From:I don't think magic corrupts, look at the fairy nuns, but the power they seek through magic. Gold and Regina both learnt magic for purposes other than the study of magic.
I knew who the kid was in like the first scene.
I don't mind Regina's redemption going back and forth, but omg can our heros being so whiny. I guess I am not connecting with Mary Margret because I was kind of hoping she'd be killed...

I adore Snow/Mary Margaret, so I'm probably not the most objective judge of her character. :-P

Date: 2013-03-21 10:25 pm (UTC)From:Oh dear lord, don't get me started on this. LOL I have been struggling with this exact problem for over a year now. I was all about Regina/Graham, but THAT ended by episode seven.:p (though there is some TRULY GORGEOUS Regina/Graham fic out there, and I can dig up my rec list for you if you want) I can so rarely be 100 percent in a fandom unless I have that (or at least an ongoing up and down relationship like a marriage). Others who are not 'ship centric in their world view like I am keep wondering WHY I so desperately need to 'ship Regina with someone in order to completely invest, but I just DO. LOL But I love her so much, I'm still here, regardless. If anything, I'm here because Regina/Henry is my 'ship (in a completely NOT twisted way!). I KNOW they love each other and I just so very desperately need to fix them.:) (Probably doesn't hurt that Henry is only a year or so younger than my own boy:))
I started to get into Regina/Rumpel for a bit. At first it didn't work for me, and then one day a scene popped into my head and it just clicked. But now that they've canonized his relationship with her mother, it gets a little...odd (I realize the rest of the show is equally odd, but...LOL). If you haven't seen this Regina/Rumpel video go watch it RIGHT NOW. You don't need to 'ship them at all to love it, it's very canonesque, but utterly gorgeous either way.
Then I started to fall for Regina/Charming, and I really really do love that, but there's that pesky Snow thing...*g* Because I really want Regina and Snow to eventually be...if not family, at least achieve some degree of forgiveness and truce. And, clearly, that won't happen if EvilCharming happens. So I have to throw it into some sort of AU to make it truly work for me.
We SOOOOOOO need someone to 'ship Regina with. Basically, if you're not SwanQueen (which I'm not), you've got nothin'. They tried to make Hook work, but it just didn't. I love him, but...I don't know, I know he's not young, but he still feels too young for Regina, somehow.:)
We WILL find a 'ship...WE WILL!!! Lana says Regina's just waiting for the right one...*g*...so are we!

Date: 2013-03-22 01:41 am (UTC)From:It's not impossible. I've toyed with it. The fandom was so Emma/August, it took me a while to even think of it.:D
Regina/Bae (because that would add whole new levels of holy crap--but there's that fiancee, dang).
Yeah, that would be beyond twisted, wouldn't it?:D:D:D

She needs FAMILY most of all. We need someone to let us see the more human side of her other than Henry (so we can get the "adult" human side, by which I don't just mean sex). I mean, yes, the hot would be fun, but mostly I need someone for the hurt/comfort and just caring.

Date: 2013-03-22 02:12 am (UTC)From:I have to admit I don't really ship Regina with anyone. I basically ship Snow/Charming, but that is more of a back-in-fairy tale-land before they actually got together thing for me, especially since I find David in our world fairly unappealing. Oops.

LOL. I can understand that. I actually started this show as a Snow/Charming 'shipper. I thought the Evil Queen was good, but a kind of odd casting choice. Then at some point when I was entirely unsuspecting, Regina ate my brain.*g* At first I found David in Storybrooke just vague and kind of wimpy. But then he gradually grew on me, especially second season (like in "We Are Both").:) I actually liked the "under curse" Mary Margaret better than Snow, and I sort of miss her.:)
But in any case, there's just SO much lovely to play with in this universe!!

Date: 2013-03-22 12:14 am (UTC)From:1. I think they've been showing a lot of how we act determines who we are, but that often time circumstances make actions keep you who you are (for example Dreamy...but look he became Grumpy. That's a whole new action. He lost his identity! Even if he didn't get his dream).
2. I was thinking the same thing.
3. I...dunno. What about fairy magic? It's very conusing.
4. I was looking for the dude to show that keychain from when his dad gave it to him. (And how did he get it back from Regina anyway? I think I missed something there).
5. Put that way, very cool.
6. Where the hell are you wandering? I'm loving the Regina arc. It makes her seem more real because a person does backslide. I do wish she'd had her own kind of resolution to her mother's machinations rather than plug her heart back in.

Date: 2013-03-22 02:17 am (UTC)From:3. Yes! I tend to think the show hasn't decided yet what role magic has or doesn't have. Also, I think they made a mistake with Gold teaching Emma magic and having it be so easy right off the bat for her. I didn't get the feeling that just anyone can do that sort of thing... I would have liked it better if she had to struggle for it over the course of the episode.
4. Hmmm... Continuity error? Might have to watch that again.
5. Hee!
6. Me, too. I mean, I like what this does for Snow's arc, but not so much what it does for Regina's. at least, not right now.
