holdouttrout: not your ordinary fish (sam/teal'c smile)

I wandered into Atlanta at about 6am, after a flight that reminded me that flying is in no way fun (except for taking off--whee!), nor is it possible to sleep much on any flights--unless you have leg room by some miracle, which I didn't.

I stumbled around, trying to look coherent enough to not be a target for a mugging (not that I thought I *would* be, mind you, just that I didn't want to give anyone ideas), and made it to the Hilton with little fuss, all things considered. I checked in (ridiculously early), slept for a couple of hours, and began...

The Con Experience.

I got my badge (easy), found the schedule (moderately easy), and then I found [livejournal.com profile] thekatebeyond, who had texted me when I still wasn't sure how to tell which hotel I was in. We hung out for a bit, and then I had to go back upstairs so I could use my phone to talk with [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077 and [livejournal.com profile] beanpot and meet up with them and/or coordinate another meeting time and place. I found them in the hotel, thanks to my great intuitive skills, and they headed off to get their badge.

After I recovered various items from the room, I went back to try to meet them, and manage to figure out I needed to be in the Hyatt, on a lower floor than I was. I stepped toward the escalators, and BRENT SPINER walked by, and asked me a question. AND I ANSWERED. AND THEN HE SAID SOMETHING BACK TO ME.

(The conversation went something like this:
Him: Which do you like better, Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica?
Me (in head): OMG THAT'S BRENT SPINER AND HE JUST ASKED ME A QUESTION TO WHICH I KNOW THE RIGHT ANSWER.
Me (out loud): Star Trek, of course!
Him: Good answer! Blah blah blah (as he went down the escalator).

That's when I knew I'd arrived. :-)

After that, there's a gigantic blur of:

The Stargate Panel, in which Corrin was declared skinny, said he didn't like bananas all that much, and John De Lancie barely remembers being on Stargate. This panel was light, fun, and a really good start to Con.

The Farscape panel, in which everyone was awesome, and I learned that Lani Tupu wasn't to blame for Pilot's voice being different in the miniseries (which makes me feel better), and Gigi Edgley really was too cute for words. There's still something about that show that makes me sigh in glee--a spark or some kind that sets it and its cast apart. In silly terms, that show had soul.

Then we (me, beanpot, abyssinia) managed to meet up with...oh...almost everyone... um... [livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast, [livejournal.com profile] katcorvi, [livejournal.com profile] pellucid, [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat, [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp, [livejournal.com profile] shutthef_up, and I know there are a couple of people I'm missing from that list.

After that, we hit the Stargate party in a really tiny room, where I met [livejournal.com profile] karma_aster, who was involved in the track stuff.

However, it was pretty crowded, and we were missing a few people, so we left and met up with the rest of everyone listed above at the bar in the Marriott, where we talked fandom, fic, and panels, and generally had a lot of fun.

Then it was time to sleep.

Saturday later.

Brent is VERY nice. I met him at Comic-Con the year Threshold was coming out. 2005? Yes, I think.

Did you meet [livejournal.com profile] triciabyrne1978? She's one of my conwhore buddies.

I don't know if I did meet her. Honestly, there are a few people I'm only pretty sure I met. ;-)

There just...wasn't enough time for everything, sadly.

I'm pretty sure she was planning to hang with Jenn [livejournal.com profile] surrealphantast), and she did a couple of panels, one on video making(?) and one on "other things the Stargate actors have been in", where they were going to show clips.

She's short (I can say that, cuz I'm like a centimeter taller - okay maybe 2 inches taller) with dark blonde/light brown hair about collar-length or shoulder-length (unless she cut it since July).

Hmmm...I'll have to ask Jenn, at this point. Sorry!

For reference, she is small and very innocent-looking. And yet, there is eeeeeeeeeevil in her brain. ;)

Hahahahaha! Brilliant composure! What a fun encounter for your first day of the con. Looking forward to the "Saturday" report!

Yeah--I was THRILLED, to say the least.

(Almost as thrilled as when--but that's a Saturday story. ;-) Or Sunday. Maybe Sunday. Yes, it's Sunday. And it has to do with BSG.)

BSG encounter? Ooh, was it with the Chief? Er, Aaron Douglas?

YOU ARE EVIL TO TEASE ME SO.

No, it was Apollo--er--Jamie--I wish I'd been coherent enough to drop by the Chief's table, though. He seemed awesome.

*laughs* There's a reason I've always preferred fan-run cons to creation and the like: the guests tend to wander around a lot more, and you run into them in odd places.

It was more my overwhelming coolness that got to me. Well, and BRENT SPINER!
