It's one of those days again, where nothing is actually wrong with the world, and yet I feel slightly down. So here are some things that are causing me joy despite myself:

rough drafts, snow, and DragonCon )

Moving on, I have a short meta about canonical ships )

And now I'm going to talk just a little itty bit about het, slash, and gen, and why slash is artistically superior.

Just kidding.

Prompt Responses

Several lovely people gave me some great prompts. Here are a couple of the responses. My brain quit on me today, so the rest of them will have to wait. (Sorry!)

I just finished reading "A Stargate Primer for the Farscape Fan," by [personal profile] katie_m, and I have to say it was one of the more hilarious things I've read about Stargate and the fandom. I wish I'd had this around when I first stumbled into Stargate kinda sorta almost maybe through Farscape (but not really). On the other hand, I can now appreciate all the humor in it, so that's pretty sweet.

Am now going to read "A Farscape Primer for the Stargate Fan," by [personal profile] cofax7, and hope it's even half as funny. Which it ought to be, considering it's about Farscape.

I'm sorry if y'all have seen these about a million times. I'm new-ish, and I like spreading joy. *waves hand cheerfully*

So...if you have two versions of an episode (one slightly longer than the other), which do you put on the DVD? Come on, people; this is an easy question. Or maybe this is the question: does the extended version of Threads actually exist? Or is it fannish glee made up by gateworld.net? This is actually a rant that I've been saving up since I saw the rest of season 8, although now that it's here it doesn't sound particularly ranty. Any comments/insight/get-a-life comments accepted here.

The first time I tried to watch the first season of SG-1, I gave up after five or so episodes; it just wasn’t that interesting to me, and it seemed so cheesy. So I skipped to season two to give it another shot...and got hooked. Now I’ve gone back, and I think I just didn’t watch far enough. Not to mention some of these episodes are pretty important thematically.

So…I don’t know if I’m just oblivious, or if it’s really just not that big of a deal, but I finally discovered that Sam really does say “Holy Hannah.” It amused me to no end when I saw it in fiction, and I’m wondering now if I just never noticed it being said all the time in the show or what. I actually noticed it in a season 10 episode first…but that’s beside the point.

I also have now seen the first episode where Daniel dies. Hee! It was pretty fun, actually. I liked the confusion the other three show when they’re like, “We saw Daniel die; we know he’s dead. But we know he’s alive.” I also love that Daniel’s surprised Jack said nice things at his service.

And beer!

Okay, ending my fannish squeals of glee now.

I was just thinking about 2010 and accompanying fandom, and I was wondering what people's favorite Sam/Jack fics from this universe/era/whatever were.

I also have a "Why in the hell do the rest of SG-1 think the Aschen will solve all their problems?" question. Because you'd really think that all these people would have got the idea that everything comes with a price. Every single piece of literature reiterates this concept: you get something powerful enough to defeat the bad guys, and something is taken from you. I don't know...I would expect Carter to go off the deep end about the Aschen, but Teal'c? Not so much. And yeah, Daniel has his moments of naivtee, but usually he can find his way around in that place where SG-1 reality meets legend. See, now, Jack I buy. Because Jack has always had his skepticism-- and maybe the fact that no other advanced alien race has ever just handed over technology clued him in. But how did he manage to *not* convince the rest of them?

On the whole, I kinda like these two episodes. I especially like the fact that they have to figure it all out again after striking the first planet from their list. The Aschen don't just disappear from the galaxy. That's good. I *love* the tension between 2010 Jack and Sam. Oh boy, is that relationship messed up, and I love the hints of darkness it gives that relationship, and the volumes it speaks about how wrong things went with the team.

Oh! While I'm thinking about it: The Sam/Jack wedding photo? That's from where, exactly? Not from "200." Is it from an AU?

And if someone could explain Sam/Cam to me...Maybe there are things in season 9 I haven't seen yet, but this idea seems a little disturbing to me. Yeah, it's partly because I'm a Sam/Jack shipper, but even so--I haven't really seen any hint of romance between them on-screen. Of course, I also don't see any hints of romance between Daniel/Sam or Daniel/Jack, so maybe I'm just limited.
