It's JJ Abrams.

I really wish I had liked the new Star Trek*, because then I don't think I'd be this conflicted. On the one hand: ALIAS. On the other: Abrams, if you put a giant red ball** into Star Wars I will never forgive you***.

*I have other critiques of it besides "There is no excuse for MINISKIRTS on a space ship," but that might be a thing that constantly annoys me whenever I think about it.

**A small one is, however, allowed. Subtle references are cool. Giant plot anvils are not.

***I probably would, if it were awesome enough.

Today I was involved in an energetic discussion about Twilight, set off because I said that I would likely see this final Breaking Dawn movie. I've read the books--yes, I regret this to a certain extent--and I've seen all but the second movie. I feel I owe it to myself to complete the full experience.

I was asked if I'd rather re-read the four books or get shot in the foot. No question, I'd much rather read the books again. I mean, shot in the foot? What kind of a masochist would rather GET SHOT IN THE FOOT than read Twilight again? I get that it was hyperbole, but it still didn't appeal as an option.

So then I started thinking of the most terrible thing I WOULD rather do than re-read the Twilight novels, and I decided that I would, in fact, rather watch The Star Wars Holiday Special again. All 45 90 minutes of it.

I was so struck by this thought that I forgot to think of any other options.

So then I made everyone watch Gangnam Style and Gangnam Style parody vids.

Title: Four Walls and a Blaster
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating/Warnings: PG (Character Death.)
Characters: Han. Leia.
Summary: Han left, and Leia couldn't fault him. What might have happened if he never came back at the battle of Yavin.
Author's Notes: Well, this is awkward. [livejournal.com profile] knightedrogue, this was supposed to be finished and posted much, MUCH earlier this last year. Hope you like it, even if it has been delayed for far too long. My sincere gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp, who helped see the light of day by refusing to let it die several times, and whose birthday gave me a new deadline.

There's been a lot of discussion lately about Merlin, and whether or not this is a good fandom for people to start loving. From what I can tell, this is largely about the same issues that most fandoms have some amount of trouble with: racism and misogyny. Oddly enough, Arthurian legend has never pinged me as much as everyone, including myself, would think. Mostly I read because the women interested me and wore long, pretty dresses. (Note: My involvement with fandoms hasn't gotten much deeper over time.)

I just read the word "droid" and somehow automatically translated it as a slang for "person," despite it being in the sentence, "...weren't the droid they were looking for."

Hello, brain. You still there?

Or almost, since [livejournal.com profile] bulky_monster's birthday was yesterday.

A LONG time ago she mentioned writing a SW Han/Leia ficlet in which they shared a shower to wash off alien goo. I would have written her an epic if I could have, but instead I wrote this somewhat silly and contrived piece that I hope she likes anyway.

MASSIVE cliches ahead, as well as willful manipulation of character.

I didn't actually expect you to take me up on it )

Title: The Glass Falcon
Fandom: Star Wars
Pairing: Han/Leia
Warnings: Mentions murder, intrigue, madness, and has GAPING PLOT HOLES!
Summary: What if Han were a private detective, and Leia just happened to be his new client? What if it was told in first-person noir style? What if Chewie could speak English and was called Charles? This is what happens when I get the desire to write something fun with plot.
Author's Notes: I'm not kidding abou the gaping plot holes. This story, while considerably better put together than another SW long story I shall not name, was written over the course of many months, during which time the story evolved in my head quite a bit. I, however, still think it's amazingly fun. It's not at all about a Glass Falcon. Just thought I'd warn you.

It's a longish one, so it can be found on my website: The Glass Falcon.

I'm slowly working my way through the meme post and giving answers. Y'alll are awesome. :-)

So...I finished the SW story last night. I'm posting the last of it tonight, I think. I am so excited. I'm very, very happy to have finished it. I loved the whole process of twisting the canon to suit the setting on Earth.

Honestly, it was written over too long a period of time, and it's a little disjointed. But for all that, I think it stands up pretty well.

I'll post a link to it here, too, once it's all done.

So...thoughts on Lost last night. SPOILERS )

I also told Jenn that I'd talk a little about my thoughts about House.
